Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

An extraordinary friendship. A lifetime of stories.

Their last one begins here.

Life is short - no one knows that better than 17-year-old Lenni Petterssen. On the Terminal Ward, the nurses are offering their condolences already, but Lenni still has plenty of living to do.

When she meets 83-year-old Margot Macrae, a fellow patient offering new friendship and enviable artistic skills, Lenni's life begins to soar in ways she'd never imagined.

As their bond deepens, a world of stories opens up: of wartime love and loss, of misunderstanding and reconciliation, of courage, kindness and joy.

Stories that have led Lenni and Margot to the end of their days.

Fiercely alive, disarmingly funny and brimming with tenderness, The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot unwraps the extraordinary gift of life even when it is about to be taken away and revels in our infinite capacity for friendship and love when we need it most.

Just Lovely

I laughed, I cried, more than once, and I fell in love with Lenni, Margo, Father Arthur, new nurse, Humphrey, Mina, Jeremy and Davey. All woven into a beautiful story that I shall miss now I’ve finished it. They are characters you will think about think about long after the last page and wish you could thank, one by one, for sharing their story. Highly recommend.

Lovely book… I sobbed multiple times!

This was such a lovely book. Narrators were excellent and I cried multiple times - proper ugly sobbing cries. So… maybe don’t read it on public transport 😂

Lovely story!

I was first drawn to this book by the pretty, colourful cover. After seeing lots of good reviews all over social media I thought I would give it a go.

I listened to the audiobook via Audible. The narration was very good and done by two different narrators to represent the two main characters.

Lenni is a terminally ill teenager, being cared for in hospital. She befriends an older lady, Margot, and the two strike up a heartwarming friendship.

I expected this to be a sad book as it’s mostly set in a hospital and deals with terminal illness and loss. It’s actually quite a funny and uplifting book and is only sad at times.

I really liked the characters in the book and they certainly drove the story.

Lenni is seventeen and Margot is eighty three, so between them they’re one hundred years old. They decide to tell the stories of their lives via painting.

The story goes between Lenni and Margot and reveals more about their lives. It shows that age doesn’t matter when it comes to friendship.

I really enjoyed this story and looked forward to listening to a bit every day. The lady who narrated Margot had such a comforting voice.

I would recommend this if you’re looking for a heart warming read, but have the tissues ready!

Memorable

A thoroughly enjoyable read. One anticipates the inevitable end but waits with curiosity as to how and when. Sad but as it should be. This is a book one is glad one has listened to.

A Compelling Read

Found myself totally immersed in this beautiful novel. I felt as if I knew the characters inside out. Despite it being a sad story, it also made me laugh and smile. There were tears too but that was inevitable.
I loved both of the readers. I’m Scottish so I immediately felt like a couple of friends were telling me their story.
