Summary
What if going back was the only way of going forward?
Rocked by a terrible accident, homeless Kelly needs to escape the cold streets of Glasgow. Maybe she doesn’t believe in serendipity, but a rare moment of kindness and a lost ring conspire to call her home. As Kelly vows to reunite the ring with its owner, she must return to the small town she fled so many years ago.
On her journey from Glasgow to the south-west tip of Scotland, Kelly encounters ancient pilgrim routes, hostile humans, hippies, book lovers and a friendly dog, as memories stir and the people she thought she’d left behind forever move closer with every step.

Well written and well narrated
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even when it was hard-going, gritty and challenging!
This is an honest, no-holes-barred story of Kelly, a homeless young woman living on the streets of Glasgow.
With the talented narration and exceptionally descriptive language and dialogue, I found myself becoming increasingly invested in Kelly’s life and feeling her embarrassment, her frustration and shame. It was easy to fall in love with Cauliflower and I was desperately hoping for a “happily ever after” ending…
I only finished this book earlier today and I miss Kelly and Cauli already!

Touching story, beautifully narrated
I’m so glad i got this on audible rather than read it. Having an authentic voice for Scottish patter made the protagonists voice real. The story is hard hitting at times with many emotional highs and lows, but the prose is sublime. I loved it

Different ( in a good way)
I was wondering where this story was going…. At times it seemed to drag on, but as Kelly’s journey proceeds her story is slowly unraveled. I t is actually a charmingly real story, covering some important issues.
Lovely narration

I’ll miss you Kelly!
A great story. Painfully sad at times and funny & at times heartwarming. I found myself cringing for Kelly, happy & sad for her. I’ll miss her now I’ve finished this story.

Raw, Real, Riveting
Loved the gifted use of language and the gritty story. Appreciated that there was no big bow tied at the end. Enjoyed the history of Scotland and the interesting and challenging story lines including a well known Glasgow incident. Genius Campbell who never fails to entertain.

Down and out in Glasgow
A great story about an area none of us really want to know about.
Sensitively written, with an insight into another world which it seems the author has thoroughly researched at a grass roots level. Letting us know what really counts when you are in the streets.
My only issue was that it took a bit of time to get into, but I think that’s just me.
The narration was outstanding

What a refreshing change
Loved this story. Made me LOL in places, angry in others. A lighthearted tale, tinged with sadness and a commentary on addiction, homelessness and being invisible in today’s society. Lived it. I can imagine it being adapted to screen.
