Summary

When Jo Green takes a nannying job in London to escape her small-town routine and perfect-on-paper boyfriend Shaun, culture shock doesn't even begin to describe it.

Dick and Vanessa Fitzgerald are the most incompatible pair since Tom and Jerry, and their children glittery warrior pixie Cassandra, bloodthirsty Zak and shy little Tallulah are downright mystifying. Suddenly village life seems terribly appealing.

Then, just as Jo's getting the hang of their designer lifestyle, the Fitzgeralds acquire a new lodger, and suddenly she's sharing her nanny flat with the distractingly good-looking but inexplicably moody Josh. So when Shaun turns up, things get even trickier.

Brilliantly read

Acted perfectly and a terrific story. Narration one of the best I’ve heard. Wish all Melissa’s books were in audio.

A thumbs up from an avid Melissa Nathan fan

Would you consider the audio edition of The Nanny to be better than the print version?

To me it is just as good and I am shocked to hear myself say that. I have read all of Nathan's books and I love them, have read them all 3 or 4 times each as they make me laugh, a dryer sense of humour than other girly romance books. I was wary of buying the audio version of this, my favourite of Nathan's, as I didn't think I would like it if it was read differently to how I play it in my head. But the narrator does a brilliant job and is on point with the comic timing.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is very much a comfort book for me as are all of Melissa Nathan's books. I get the same feeling of frustration and happiness etc whenever I hear/read it. Now that I've tried the audio and enjoyed it, I am left disappointed that Audible do not do more of her books.

Any additional comments?

If you haven't read any of Melissa Nathan's work I urge you to try at once. Particularly Pride, Prejudice and Jasmine Field and The Learning Curve. Perfect for a night in with a cup of tea and a cake.

very funny & sweet

I loved it remember reading it but the audio is better. I funny & heartbreaking at the same time. You can feel the undercurrent between the characters. It leads you very funnily to learn all about the complex relationships in the house and the peril of half listen to conversations

struggled to finish...

This book struggled to capture my interest from the start. After months of purchasing this book and many attempts, I forced myself to listen till the end. The story is okish, but I think a different narrator would have made it a more easy listen.

Brummy accent?

The story was engaging and heartwarming. Once Jo was in London all the accents were great, but the accents of her friends back home were very odd. Took a bit of getting used to listening to Jo as the third person, but a great listen

highly recommend

Light and fun - would definitely recommend it.

The charcters were likable and although the story was predictable it was a good listen.
