Summary

Murder, mystery, and a dog of distinction. Heathcliff Lennox investigates.

Ladies' man, dandy, charming rogue, thief. Montague Morgan has a buccaneering reputation, and he doesn't give a damn–until he falls in love.

He has a plan, he needs money, and he knows how to get it. He and his lover conspire to escape to exotic lands with stolen gold.

But the gold belongs to dangerous people, and plans can go awry. Morgan disappears; has he escaped, or has he fallen prey to lethal retribution?

Lennox's friend ex-chief inspector Swift is embroiled, and Lennox steps in to help, but his wedding is fixed for Christmas Eve, and it's only a few days away. As the mystery around Montague Morgan deepens, so the tension rises....

Major Heathcliff Lennox–ex WW1 war pilot, six feet, three inches tall, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30–named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother–much to his great annoyance.

Perfectly Narrated. Enjoyable Stories.

I have enjoyed all of this series of books.
The narrator has a fabulous voice. The books are gentle and about another era, perfect for a bedtime listen. Love the dog and cat and dearly hope they live on in further books to a ripe old age.

THIS ONE IS HARD WORK

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of these books until this one, sadly.
I found this one tedious and was in no hurry to resume listening. I still haven’t completed it.
I find it very sad as I’d got very fond of all the characters and their adventures.

Another fantastic outing for our duo

Another great story brilliantly written and read by Sam Dewhurst-Phillips with twists and turns throughout getting you to rethink who dunnit. Lennox and Swift once again sort out all the clues to get to the truth. And then right at the end the wedding we have been waiting for.

Stunning series

I love all this series. Well written and clever with many surprises. No fill in dialogue, repetition, or repeat pondering on who dunnit like a lot of books. Well defined lovable characters. I can’t wait to see what Lennox and Percy do next, and of course inspector Swift, Greggs the butler, cat Mr Tubs and dog Fogg . Lots of humour, suspense and action. Sam Dewhurst Phillips is an outstanding narrator. I actually forget there is one person narrating, not just with voice but the personalities each character has. After listening to 500+ audio books, he is my number one. How he is not narrating more books is a true mystery.

Another fantastic story, and performance.

I have waited so long for the audible version, and am thrilled to bits, it starts brilliantly as always which pulls you in, and keeps you in until the last word, I could spend my life listening to these stories, they got me through the pandemic, and are still going strong..love, love love them.

Not the best book in this series

Have enjoyed this series so far, usually tongue n cheek humour, and entertaining story. This book not so much. Also, the historically most excellent narrator is falling into the current habit of grating voice fry

Great fun and excellent narration!

Though the above description may sound strange for a murder mystery, it is true. There are some sad moments (murder, as well as other crimes), but Ms. Menuhin manages to balance the humor with the difficult issues without being flippant. Sam Dewhurst-Phillips is the perfect narrator for these books. His ability to portray the voice of Heathcliff Lennox while providing seemingly endless distinctive voices for the other characters is astounding. Enjoy!

So disappointed

I have always enjoyed the Heathcliff Lennox books. Some are quite complicated but I love the inclusion of Mr Fogg and mr Tubbs. This one turned out yo be dirty pool. To spring such a tawdry conclusion on the listener is completely unacceptable. I will be returning this book.

Read all 7

I truly enjoy this series, it’s very good. Some it is excellent.

HL character should improve, being an idiot at times wears on me. He’s a small part comedian but his fumbling does irritate me.

Swift, his partner in crime, should always act as former DCI. I get irritated when goes away from that role.

To the author: The two together make a good team, please have them mature as you move forward.

Can’t wait for the next book.

Another Great Story

I love the humor that is weaved into the characters personalities. The continuation of Heathcliff Lennox' adventures was worth the wait. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Lots to love and lots not to love...

I really like this series. It's very entertaining and I've listened to all of the previous books. This was my least favorite because it had far too much wasted dialog between the characters. It made the storyline too convoluted and confusing. The narration was perfect, as usual. Still looking forward to the next book.

Enjoyable series

Less raised voices would make the story better. Sometimes it seems overdone. But I still love the story line and characters.
