Summary
Everyone knows about the Alperton Angels: the cult who brainwashed a teenage girl into believing that her baby was the anti-Christ. When the girl came to her senses and called the police, the Angels committed suicide and mother and baby disappeared into the care system.
Now, author Amanda Bailey is writing a book on the case. The Alperton baby has turned eighteen; finding them will be the true-crime scoop of the year. But rival author Oliver Menzies is just as smart, better connected, and also on the baby's trail.
As Amanda and Oliver are forced to collaborate, they realise that the truth about the Angels is much darker and stranger than they'd ever imagined. This story is far from over...

Not a good fit for audio
I know Janice Hallett is a great writer, so I’m sure the story picks up but I couldn’t finish it. The constant switching from email, to voice memos, to WhatsApp is exhausting. And, worst of all, boring. Had this been written in more traditional literary style I’d have loved it.

Fantastic
You know when you read a Janice Halley novel that you aren’t going to get a straight narrative. Every narrator is untrustworthy and every element of the story may or may not be a red herring. I just went with the flow and enjoyed the complicated, murky and often witty journey.

So bored I couldn't finish it....
I'm sure this is a good story.... but it most definitely doesn't work as an audio book. Jumping from email to what's app to dialogue, amongst different characters and different readers is hard to follow. First time in a long time I haven't finished a book.

Great book with plenty of twists and turns
Really enjoyed this book; as expected with any Janice Halley book! Sadly, the voice of Ellie Cooper really grated on me and I found her very difficult to listen to… hoping there’s not a second book based around her!
Also, one of the titles of a chapter gives away a key part in the story! (and one has a spelling mistake) poor work Audible!!

Wonderful listen, fantastic contemporary fiction
Another smasher from Hallett. This is not a typical single narrator audiobook and doesn't pretend to be at any point, so don't expect that. This novel is BETTER! It is altogether more complex, intriguing and contemporary than a "regular" audiobook. This book seems to have been produced even more sharply than previous novels, and is a true masterpiece in audio literature. The story is gripping and so cleverly constructed. Can't wait for more!

Great book
Another great book from this author! Displaying the author’s usual style of narrative from different characters. Recommended!

Interesting
I wasn’t sure about the format at first but soon got into it. The plot was very twisty and kept me listening.

What a fantastic story, utterly gripping and brilliantly performed. I was none the wiser about the mystery until the very end.

Hallet puts out another cracker
I love the case notes format she goes with, and the varied voice acting is great. But most of all she just writes compelling mysteries!
