Summary

If you see his reflection it's already too late....

The gripping new crime novel from global thriller writing phenomenon Lars Kepler.

Seventeen-year-old Jenny is abducted in broad daylight and taken to a dilapidated, isolated house where she is chained and caged along with several other girls. Their captor is unpredictable and as wily as he is cruel: he foils every one of their desperate attempts to escape...and once caught, they rarely survive their punishment.

Five years later, Jenny is found dead in a public park, and the police are scrambling to find a lead among the scant evidence. But Detective Joona Linna realises that this murder has an eerie connection to a death that was declared a suicide years before. And now when Mia, a 17-year-old orphan, goes missing, it becomes clear to Joona that they are dealing with a serial killer - and the murderous rampage has just begun.

As the police close in on the killer, Mia and her fellow captives are plunged into ever greater danger, and Joona finds himself in a seemingly impossible race against time to save their young lives.

Thrilling

This book is by far the best I’ve listened to in a long time,
Story brilliant it keeps you in suspense until the end.
Narrator his usual clever use of different characters.
The sort of book you want to read but don’t want to get to the end.
Recommended.

Hold on to your hat!

This is a tense and sinister crime story. It was a good listen with some stressful moments. I like to knit whilst listening in the evening and found myself dropping stitches. So my advice is don’t knit whilst listening to it 😂. I would definitely listen to more books by this author. Highly recommended if you like tense and well characterised crime stories.

Harrowing

I usually enjoy Scandi crime fiction, but found this book an exception. The portrayals of torture and violence were really very harrowing and graphic, almost entirely unnecessary, fairly masochistic and very difficult to listen to. In addition there were lots of parts of the book that were drawn out and didn’t go anywhere.

Lousy

Wallowed in grisly exploitation rather than crafting a believable narrative. The ‘good’characters came across as mawkish, dialogue poor. No thrills, just very unpleasant. Will never read another.

Too long, drawn out

Boring, overly long. Unnecessarily detailed. Almost gave up reading book on many occasions. Sorry, not for me.

Loved the storyline. And the twist in the end- so good!!!

I am not a fan of Sauls reading. Every characters normal speach is acted as whining with childlike voice. Sounds just fake and ruins the experience to some degree.

a dry slow book

I just didn't enjoy it. Everything was over explained and drawn out leaving what could be and exciting story a slow page turner that I nearly didn't finish

I couldn’t listen to this.

The story may be fine, I don’t know ‘cause I couldn’t listen to the narration. It sounded like he was reading from a list.

Sorry good but the Narrator leave much more to wish for.

The usual over blown, over the top story line from the Kepler duo, wish is easy to get stuck in. However I wish it was available in Swedish or at least with the excellent narration style made in the original language as this English narrator’s style is not suitable for this type of story, especially as he makes Joona Linna sound dumb, rather than Finland Swedish.
