About this listen

At the age of 18, Oliver James Blackstone was the youngest deputy marshal in the state of Texas, and as the handpicked recruit of Marshal Andrew Lofton, there was no time to ease him into the position.

Fortunately, after years spent working in his uncle Jedediah's gun smith shop, there was hardly a weapon forged by human hands that Oliver couldn't expertly wield.

As Marshal Lofton would soon discover, not only was his new deputy deadly accurate, but he was also unbelievably fast, and with the ruthless Scorpion Hill Gang operating in Marshal Lofton's district, Oliver's skills would be tested time and again.

Although the citizens of Texas revered him as a guardian angel, the members of the outlaw gang would come to fear him as the Grim Reaper. But, unlike most gunslingers, Oliver's reputation spread slowly, because by the time an outlaw learned his name, they were already dead.

Very Good

I haven't listened to book 1 in the series so although this is the second book it does well as a stand alone. Oliver is 18 when he is made a Deputy Marshall and this is the story of his first year chasing the bad guys. It is entertaining and action packed and I listened to it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. Sometimes Oliver seems too good to be true but you can't help liking him. Highly Recommended. Tom Lennon does a fantastic job of the the narration as usual. I look forward to listening to more of the series at some point.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.

Another great hit

Although chronologically the beginning of the series, this is actually book two (book one I have a feeling is the last book chronologically) but it doesn't matter, and I'm have the feeling the other books could be read in any order.
This is a great story of the unique Oliver Blackstone, and his journey to become Marshall Oliver Blackstone.
Again I won't give the story away too much, but is worth a read, even if you aren't into westerns, you will enjoy a great good versus evil (white hats Vs black hats) tale.
Narration by Sam Elliot sound alike 😁 was spot on again.

Excellent backstory

Audible edition.

This is the second book in the series following on from Oliver & Mia although actually set years before book one at the start of Oliver's career. I wondered how well this would work, having read what is the 6th book chronilogically before the first but it works really well. Knowing the later details about Oliver made this one more enjoyable to listen to and was easy to follow.
I'm not normally a fan of westerns (I usually avoid them) but this is so well written that I loved evry minute of it and can't wait to listen to the next.
Tom Lennon is the perfect narrator for this as his voice fits with the place and time period.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily writing an unbiased review.
