Summary

Worship from Afar
Brooks Sutherland has been interested in Darcy Winters since he first laid eyes on him at the Courtesan Hotel, where Brooks worked as a bodyguard. Darcy never knew he existed. When Brooks had a seizure that resulted in loss of his eyesight from a head trauma, he could no longer do his job. Years later, Brooks comes back to bid on Darcy at the annual summer auction. He knows Darcy all too well and wants him to relax before Darcy kills himself from stress. Kidnapping him away for a vacation is perfectly reasonable - to Brooks.

Workaholic on Vacation
As far as Darcy is concerned, the Courtesan Hotel will be a disaster without him, so he doesn’t expect his mother to put him up for auction as a last-minute surprise. The man who wins time with him is charming, but Darcy has no plans to be swept away from his work. A night will more than do. When Brooks hustles him off on a vacation, he’s not sure how to relax, but Brooks is a good distraction.

Stress Less or Else
Darcy needs someone to teach him how to let go, and Brooks thinks he’s that man. But making a relationship work is a lot harder than he expects, because Darcy runs back to the Courtesan every chance he gets. Brooks wants to take care of Darcy, but unless Brooks can learn what that really means, he’ll push Darcy away instead. If that happens, neither man will get what he needs.

Finally! the ice Prince is thawed

I loved the serious and up tight Darcy in the cameos in the other books and always wondered about him and the way he was and boy did this book open it all up!! I felt for Darcy and his perfectionist tendencies. His need for control and things to be a certain way is something I totally understand. it's really hard to let go of those processes. I think Brooke's is perfect for Darcy. I would have thought with all the observing he'd have known he needed to "mess up" to get Darcy's attention but I get why he didn't. He and Darcy are well matched and there time together is intense, I would have liked a bit more on page aftercare as some scenes were really intense. I think Brookes had the perfect remedy for Darcy just perhaps with less kidnapping LOL
These two are another wonderful addition to this world and I really hope we get more cameos of the new and improved Darcy in future books!!!

Mr Winters

Honestly, I’m just glad we finally got to meet Darcy and experience who he really is. I absolutely loved that he was the Ice Prince but also a sweet guy for Brookes.
It was read absolutely brilliantly, TJ did a fantastic job! The characters where brought to life so well and I 100% fell into this story. If we didn’t know which characters POV we where listening too you’d still be able to tell bc TJ gave them there own ‘voices’ for everything!

I did at times find myself wanting Darcy to stand up to Madam Winters, and give her what for, though that could just be me as a person 🤷🏼‍♀️

Without giving too much away, I really enjoyed the scene with Darcy being unable to help Brookes. You gotta love a bit of angst these two lovelies!
I kind of wish Darcy would’ve stuck up for himself more at some points within the story whether when Brookes was being a lil bit of an alphahole or with those at the Courtesan however, overall I really enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend it!

I kind of wish we had gotten to see some of the boys from the previous books! Though I did love when the Harlots appeared.

I’m now wondering if we’re going to get a book for Levi? Kinda likes the guy in the end 😂

The Ice Prince and the bodyguard

I like the world of New Gothenberg so I was looking forward to this audiobook.
The two main characters are Darcy Winters, the son of Madam Winters and Brooks Sutherland, the former bodyguard of the Courtisan Hotel.
The latter already had his eye on Darcy when he was still working there. Brooks seizes the opportunity and boosts Darcy at auction for a night. This is where I had a problem, because Darcy didn't agree to this auction - Madam Winters did her thing. Sure she's concerned about Darcy, but I didn't really grow to like her because of this action.

What I did like brilliantly, on the other hand, was the multi-layered character of Brooks. The authors described his disability sensitively, but didn't put it in the foreground and his handling of it was simply normal and understandable.
I also liked the excellent relationship building. Brooks has a protective nature, he knows what he wants and how to enforce it. Darcy is always in control in his work, but he definitely has too little free time and in his personal life he is rather insecure. Every now and then his ice prince behavior flashes through. The interplay between Brooks and Darcy was great and moved the story along.

The book is very well written, the storyline is interesting and the sex is hot.

The audiobook was narrated by TJ Clark, who was new to me. He did a fantastic job reading the story in a captivating way. The characters were easy to distinguish and he conveyed the emotions well. It was a pleasure to listen to.
I can recommend the audio book!

Very enjoyable

This is a unique storyline. I loved the characters and their personalities. I was surprised at how well written these characters were, especially the partially blind alpha. This condition didn’t take away from the dominance of this man. A brilliant performance from TJ, with a great deep tone to his voice I could listen all day and night.

Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book a lot, the characters and plot are extremely interesting, although I must admit when I read in the plot that Brooks steals Darcy away for a vacation I was expecting something more traditional than an actual kidnapping and at least dubcon situation. That being said, the book is very well-written and is kept fresh and interesting by Brooks forceful and heavy-handed way of getting Darcy to relax and Darcy’s prickliness that in most cases results in him lashing back and resorting to his “Ice Prince” ways. Apart from when Brooks manages to get him out of his head by doing any sort of super steamy things to him!

Finally the ice melts

We've seen glimpses of The Courtesan's frostily efficient manager in other books and now we finally get to see his story.

Due to some secret manipulation from Madame Winters, Brookes and Darcy are set up together. Finally Darcy is met with someone who sees past the cold exterior to the vulnerable unappreciated man underneath, someone determined to show him just how precious he is and take away some of his burdens.

This is a really sweet story, sensitively dealing with disability and relationships.

Wonderful Characters, A Fantastic Romance!

I always enjoy the characters Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory write. Complex and interesting, these folks are always unique. And there's nothing better than when everything comes together in a character who is completely genuine, and I become fully invested in their story.

Darcy Winters is just this kind of person. Determined and clever, this young man has a huge heart. Even as he’s being tricked into his getaway with Brooks, Darcy maintains his poise, sticks to his guns, and stays true to himself.

While some of Brooks’ methods might not initially appeal, Darcy tentatively succumbs to, and then gracefully accepts, the new sensations and ideas Brooks evolks in him. Experimenting with submission is a huge step for Darcy, and the authors do a marvelous job of exploring his reactions every step of the way.

I’m impressed with the way Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory weave Brooks’ disabilities into the storyline. Respectful of both his blindness and his epilepsy, the authors treat his conditions as a normal part of life, instead of a handicap. The way Brooks is adapting to the changes in his life is inspiring.

The audio version of The Madam’s Baby Boy is narrated by TJ Clark who does a tremendous job. He uses a gruff but gentle voice for Brooks, which suits him so well. And the way he performs Darcy’s high strung, stressed out panic attacks are simply perfect. Hopefully we'll be hearing him read more New Gothenburg novels soon!
