About this listen

Seize this wonderful chance to embark on a Wodehousian voyage on the luxurious liner S.S. Atlantic - in the company of Monty Bodkin, whose passion for Gertrude Butterwick knows no bounds (except those set by the wild-at-heart Hollywood starlet Lotus Blossom and her pet alligator). Also aboard are a movie mogul, the centre-forward for the All-England ladies hockey team and the two Tennyson brothers (one of whom has been mistaken for the late poet laureate and given a fat movie contract...). Also a chatty steward, and a mouse doll in which all manner of things can be hidden. This hilarious comic novel is Wodehouse at full sail - a voyage of pure delight.©2008 Trustees of the Wodehouse Estate (P)2014 Audible, Inc. Hugely entertaining

Great narration by Jonathan Cecil who really can't be beaten for his renditions of Wodehouse.

The story itself isn't Wodehouse in his absolute prime, but he's well in his way. Some of descriptions and characterisations are classic PG and hugely entertaining. Above all there's a great sense of fun.

Highly recommended.

Simply marvellous, what what!

I loved this book. An uplifting and funny farce which let me escape to another world. The cherry on top was the narrator, Jonathan Cecil. I'm quite particular about narrators - I find some of them quite irritating and it ruins the book for me. My favourite so far has been William Roberts who narrates many of Bill Bryson's books but I might go as far as to say that Mr. Cecil has stolen his crown. He brings the characters to life with such warmth, heart and enthusiasm that if and when I physically read any more books by Wodehouse it will be his voice I hear in my mind. I was sorry when it ended.

Just a joy

PG at his very best. I laughed till I cried. And Jonathon Cecil is the only narrator worth listening to when reading his work

Pure audio pleasure

Just lovely. Joyful. A golden eight hours or so of Wodehousian nirvana. Somehow I have never come across this character (Monty B) before, but as with my discovery of Psmith I realise there is more to PG than Bertie and the butler. What ho! And do dive in, I say. Oh - and hats off to Albert Peasmarch. A creation of comic genius.

Wodehouse high jinks on the high seas.

Wonderful, unforgettable characters, plus a snappy alligator and Albert Peasmarsh. It's all inexplicable! ( listen to find out why)

Typical Brilliant Wodehouse

Threw this into the mix after reading several 'heavy' book and needing a light read and a good laugh. Very well narrated and has all the hallmarks of a typical Wodehouse story.

Typically Wodehouse.

Remembering how affably bland, naive and one dimensional, his characters are, one has to be able to take this tale with more than a pinch of salt.

I think that the tale is summed up quite aptly by the Steward, Mr Peabody: Fate.
A cast of entertaining, intertwining characters, an over abundance of misunderstandings, faux pas and sleight of hand, makes this an enjoyable read but, in my opinion, went on for too long!

The cast of characters add to the length of the story and whilst you may have an idea of the resolution, Wodehouse pulls it together quite neatly.

Good fun

A merry romp with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Decades later the humour still catches you.
Very well read.
