Summary

As dawn breaks over the Pont Neuf, and the cobbled alleyways of Paris come to life, Anna Trent is already awake and at work; mixing and stirring the finest, smoothest, richest chocolate; made entirely by hand, it is sold to the grandes dames of Paris.

It's a huge shift from the chocolate factory she worked in at home in the north of England. But when an accident changed everything, Anna was thrown back in touch with her French teacher, Claire, who offered her the chance of a lifetime - to work in Paris with her former sweetheart, Thierry, a master chocolatier. With old wounds about to be uncovered and healed, Anna is set to discover more about real chocolate - and herself - than she ever dreamed.

Easy listening perfect for boring jobs!

A nice story although predictable ending but nevertheless it was great to immerse yourself in while ironing or other mundane jobs would thoroughly recommend it, great narration too.

This is Something Magical

This is also a comforting tale of the human spirit triumphing over adversity. Whilst not making it too big a part of the story and without trivialising the life changing accident at the beginning, the subjects of pain and illness are sensitively handled here.

It's set in two time frames, that are intricately woven together so that the past brings love and opportunity into the present. The older character Claire takes us on a trip down her own memory lane; while by a lucky coincidence of their being in hospital at the same time she meets and helps Anna. Then the life of Anna in the present undergoes a healing journey and is transformed by their chance meeting.

Although its a departure from the more frivolous storylines that Jenny Colgan's work tends to focus on, I thought she reached new heights with this book and have listened twice since I bought it a few years ago and writing this makes me want to listen all over again too! The narrator is perfect for this story and the way she does the voices, impressive.

Love the Author

The way the Author of these books romantically portrays the characters is brilliant and beautiful. It's like being there with them. Every well described.

Love and chocolate in Paris - what could be better?

Another winner from Jenny.
So beautifully described that I could almost smell Paris.
Anna meets her old French teacher, Claire, who encourages her to go and work in Paris for the summer. Claire in her turn revisits her own experiences there.
I loved it!!!

Ruined by the performance

The story is very good. The reader is also very good - up to a point. She cannot do a male French accent and that spoils the performance. A male actor speaking the male parts would be an infinite improvement. If I wanted to use my imagination I would have read the book. I've opted to listen to it and I expect a professional performance.
