He’s cosplaying as her boyfriend but their feelings for each other are real in this romantic comedy from Seressia Glass.

Sometimes Kenya Davenport believes she was switched at the hospital - how else could a lover of anime, gaming, and cosplay come from STEM parents? Still, Kenya dreams of being able to turn her creative hobby into a career. She finally has a chance to make it big when she joins the reality show competition Cosplay or No Way.

There's just one catch: the challenge for the final round is all about iconic pairs, and the judges want the contestants' significant others to participate. Unfortunately, Kenya is as single as can be at the moment. Luckily her best friend, Cameron Lassiter, agrees to be her fake boyfriend for the show.

Roleplaying a couple in love will force them to explore what they're hiding under the mask of friendship. Can Kenya and Cam fake it until she makes it, or will she be real about her feelings, knowing it could cost her the best friend she’s ever had?

But the ending…

I loved 2/3 of this book. It was clever and refreshing. I loved the cosplay elements and the bond between the main characters. HOWEVER, the end was rushed and so many lose ends. It just left me unsatisfied.

Boring narrator

Struggled with this one. the narrators voice was very monotonous and slow. sometimes it was hard for me to differentiate the characters. and the plot was very one-dimensional. As a black woman who grew up watching anime, I should've been able to somewhat relate to the main character.
I felt the book was so predictable, I did not have any desire to finish it - and I didn't.

The Narration Tho…

I appreciated the story—a compelling tale about an extremely intelligent, ambitious, and attractive young woman with an artistic gift…in cosplay. Really unique and cool. What bothered me was the narration. Ms. Williams merely read the story. No acting whatsoever. At times, I couldn’t tell the difference in characters. The intonation was lacking as well. Is she an actress? A standard narrator would’ve brought so much more life and color to this story. I was so disappointed by that.

Love the story

I thought this support was so cute and fun. The performance was a little flat for me. But the story was so good.

Black Girl Cosplaying!!!😍🥰 Nuff Said😇

Sweet, different story featuring a plus-sized, young, black woman who is a serious cosplayer. I enjoyed listening to the details about creating the costumes. I just wish the “bad guys” weren’t so overtly mean and disrespectful to Kenya. My pressure goes up whenever I read stories in which the MC is constantly, BLATANTLY put down or sabotaged and they just take it, even if it is “with grace”. I personally wouldn’t have made it as far as she did without snapping on that judge or the producer.
KenCam were cute together. I liked how they always had each other’s back. I don’t care about friends to lovers books, but I do enjoy the fake dating trope. This one is more the former. It is NOT a steamy book if that’s what you’re looking for. Their first sex scene faded to black and every other time happened off page. I also appreciated that Kenya wasn’t insecure about her size. I don’t mind reading about plus-sized heroines, but I hate when they’re super insecure or they belittle themselves. That was not Kenya. She loved and acknowledged her curves, and I loved her for it.
The Love Con was a cute story. I recommend if you’re looking for something different, quick and easy and you don’t mind the lack of heat. The narrator was meh. All the characters had the same voice, same tone without much differentiation in emotions. This was my first, but I would read another of the author’s books if it’s something unique in literature (like a black girl cosplaying!🥰). Hopefully it’ll have a better narrator or this one will have improved.

Wonderful listen!!!

Thank you for writing this love story with such realism. It was truly a interracial LOVE story. With everyday problems and loving support. Such a breath of fresh air from most multicultural story’s that depict the characters as sex starved - as if true love can not exist with someone from a different race.

Rushed

I think the ending was rushed and it should’ve leaned heavier into their relationship! But if there is a steamy sequel I’ll re review that.

Interesting and cute turn of events

I enjoyed this book… it was lovely to hear and feel the different dynamics of such complicated relationships as many families have, and how we try to navigate life despite our parent’s expectations. Sometimes I’m doing so we sacrifice ourselves. Some of us are fortunate to have another person to help us see us for who we are. This book had great lessons
