About this listen

Liverpool, 1946: the blackout blinds may be coming down, but one family is about to face devastating misfortune.

Dora Evans is finally marrying the love of her life, and her dreams of opening a dressmaking business look as if they might come true. With twin daughters on the way, Dora has everything she's ever wanted. But then tragedy strikes: one of Dora's babies dies in infancy, and a catastrophic fire changes their lives forever. Can Dora save herself, her marriage and her daughter?

A heartbreaking and gripping story of love, loss and hope. Perfect for fans of Nadine Dorries and Rosie Archer.

Misery

This stairs was so depressingly sad with little happiness or humour in it. I struggled to get to the end so I won’t be reading the next saga of this. I find audible a bit of an escape from life and this story made me a bit low to be honest.

A good reason for mid century historical fiction fans

A really enjoyable book, very well narrated, the ending could have been a bit more interesting but other than that I recommend this audio book

Stop attempting a Liverpool accent!

Cringeworthy accents coming from someone with true Anfield born and bred family!
It’s embarrassing and painful to listen to.
Storyline was very realistic for the 40/50’s with evident highs and lows.
It’s an okay storyline but nothing that would come as a surprise.
The accents, or the attempts at an accent, spoilt this for me.

Sad storyline

I enjoyed this book but very sad about a man that couldn’t be faithful yet again …..wonder if there’s a sequel?

the rawness and beauty of the story telling

it took too long to get into a story that I was keen to learn what happened next...
