Yes, you're dead. Boo hoo.

When John's simple car crash turns into a blazing inferno, there was no way his body could survive. He was dead. Well, sort of. His soul remained, waiting with others in Limbo, until told that he had a task to perform: to return to, essentially, save humanity. But given that he was dead, and therefore without a body and non time to grow one from birth, his soul would simply have to possess another, already living, person. And the journey began. It did not go smoothly.

This is an impressive book in that it is not only filled with twists like a mystery thriller, has some original takes on the afterlife, takes a sardonic look at the world of politics and government, emotions and desires, fame and pigeons, but also is in part rather scary but also very numerous without resorting to toilet jokes or dreary childish innuendo. Even the human characters are well drawn and those of the post life variety not exactly what the reader might expect. Hitch Hikers Guide it is not, but it is still unexpected, fun and an enjoyable read.

Narration is by Aubrey Parsons, a very English voice. Pleasant on the ear, mostly, he has an hard task with so much of the story written in dialogue spoken by a large range of characters, human and otherwise. He gives each a distinctive voice, mostly appropriate and consistent throughout, and where needed, fraught with emotional impact. One voice in particular rather amused me, sounding very much like the son, Harold, in the long running British comedy TV series, Steptoe and Son about a rag and bone business in London. His performance, though not perfect, definitely enhanced the enjoyment of the book for this reader.

I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of The Limpet Syndrome by the rights holder, at my request via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. Although it could easily be read as a stand alone, there is a 'To be continued" at the conclusion. I look.forward to reading about what happens next. It certainly won't be predictable

Make sure the faults have been corrected!

Started off as an enjoyable listen, but then sections started to be played out of order or were repeated. Very disappointing. I will get the book again if these issues are addressed

Imaginative, Well Written And Funny.

The Limpet Syndrome shows us a very different view of what awaits after death from what we may have seen before. With this being a Tony Moyle book there’s a large dose of humour involved too. We follow John Hewson as he is forced to do a deal with demons to avoid an eternity in hell. There are many threads that the author weaves together brilliantly to give his readers a fun entertaining story. What I found most impressive is how he avoided the tale deteriorating into complete farce and losing the credibility he worked so hard to create. Don’t get me wrong there are some wonderfully over the top moments but it’s always right on the line between hilarious and ludicrous and it works so well. I don’t want to give away anything from the story as it would, in my opinion, spoil it for future readers. The Limpet Syndrome is fast paced, featuring great characters and is extremely funny while at the same time somehow retaining a semblance of plausibility despite its fantastical subject. I’m pleased this is only book one of the series as I most definitely want more.
I’ve listened to many books read by Aubrey Parsons, from many different authors, and he always, without fail, does a superb job. There are many characters to breathe life into in this story, some with quite different accents too, and he does his usual excellent work bringing them all to life.

This books leaves you wanting more.

You will love the characters in this book. Filled with twists, turns and laugh out loud moments, you will want to listen to the next installment straight away. What will become of John? Will Sandy and Ian live to fly again? Will a small mountain goat weeak havoc in Limbo? Let's find out...

An endless hellish adventure

Well this book was certainly adventurous in a hellscape and earthly fantasy way. It didn’t have an ending though, so I’m not happy about that. Some of the characters are hilarious in the middle of the book. The story rambles a lot though. Not sure I’ll listen to the next audiobook in this series. I like books with a beginning, middle, and end. This was just all over the place. No structure, just craziness happening with lengthy bits that made little sense when “explaining” the dynamics of hell and souls.

Great story, but left hanging at the end

A cleverly written and mostly enjoyable escapade with a fair amount of humour, silliness and weird/interesting ideas. The characters are fun and the story is intriguing. The narrator, Aubrey Parsons, does a fabulous job with the voices and accents and gives each character a real personality.

My only real misgiving is the ending which leaves a huge cliffhanger ready for the next book and makes it feel like half a book. It kind of makes the reader feel cheated and pushed into buying the sequel which may be a good marketing ploy but doesn't give a satisfying finish.

Original, funny and thought provoking

I thoroughly enjoyed following John through the afterlife. It was an exciting and emotive adventure with just the right amount of humour. I'm looking forward to further books in the series.

Unexpected and very entertaining.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this. I was gifted it and it took me a couple of months to even bother listening to it. Anyway, the story is irreverent and gripping whilst the performance is spot on. Seriously, give it a go.

I really enjoyed this book and narration was on point. The concept was a new take on the after life but was laced with believable characters and very humorous

Great Story

I got this audio book from the author in return for writing an honest review.
The story is a little unusual with the main character returning from the dead (sort of) to help resolve an issue that could destroy the world. The story flows along nicely with plenty going on to maintain interest, there are some comedic situations along with the more serious.
The narrator has good, clear speech and an interesting tone.
I would definitely recommend listening.
