Summary

There is a killer loose on the streets of London, one that evades security cameras, is not held by locks, and savagely mutilates his victims. When the murderer switches from unknown prostitutes to Julie Longmuir, a beautiful actress at the height of her success, no woman feels safe. As the press begin to draw uncomfortable comparisons with Jack the Ripper, Jane Sullivan, heading up the police investigation, grudgingly has to agree. But the religious writing, scrawled on the wall in Julie Longmuir's blood, is outside Jane's area of expertise. Roping in Jacob Prior, a disillusioned theologian, they attempt to pick apart the demonic delusions of this Ripper copycat. They must act quickly, as events are spiralling out of control, and Jane is next on the killer's list.

Jane will be tested beyond the limits of standard police work, as the esoteric insinuates itself into the investigation. For events are linked to the clandestine Priory in the Pyrenees, the home of a secret Christian sect that pre-dates the Knights Templar. Jane and Jacob are faced with a deeper mystery than they had ever dreamed of; are they simply dealing with a psychopath, or is this something bigger, is this The End of Days?

Great fun but unbelievable

I must say that I really did enjoy the story and narration by Sean was perfect - but nothing was believable and I really do prefer to believe that reality is possible. But a good story nevertheless.

Really enjoyed this.

This is a well written and performed book. The characters are well formed and brought to life by the narrator. The story is a fresh take on Jack the ripper and ties the past with the modern world and it's downfalls. This was an unexpected surprise and I would thoroughly recommend it if you like the Di vinci code type of book.

Gripping, slightly disturbing, couldn’t switch off

This is a thriller that held my attention from beginning to end. Brilliantly read by an experienced narrator.

The narrators voice grated on me

I would have really enjoyed this story if it hadn’t been for the narrator’s vocal fry. I missed whole swathes of the story because all I could concentrate on was his grating voice. He told the story well, but that fry….

The devil wears no shadow

For the lovers of the macabre this is a story you cannot miss. Gruesome and spine chilling in places there is an element of what could happen in the world given the circumstances in the story. Well written and in this case well narrated it’s a must .

Better than Dan Brown

I was willing to suspend my disbelief for the duration of the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent narrator.

Gripping story

I found this story absolutely tense and nail-biting! So much so that I have purchased another two audio books by this author. Sean Barrett is in my top three narrators and as I have over 600 audio books I think know an excellent narrator when I hear one. I must totally disagree with comments from the other reviewer.

Excellent tale, ending quickly

I found this a good read, with a plot that took the listener back in time as well as the present and weaves in some good Bible references. Rather sudden ending that lacked power but the narrator was a great choice - a perfect voice that was spooky and evil at times!
