About this listen
The electrifying stand-alone thriller from the author of The Last Thing to Burn and First Born.
My phone has no reception, something we've been told to expect from time to time out here, and my stomach feels uneasy. Maybe it's the motion of the waves or maybe it's the fact that Pete didn't leave a note or a text. He usually leaves a note with a heart.
I pull on jeans and a jumper and scrunch my hair on top of my head and take my key card and step out into the corridor.
Thirty seconds later it hits me.
All the other cabin doors are wedged open.
Every single one is unoccupied and unlocked.
My heart starts beating harder. I break out into a run. At the end of the long corridor I take a lift down to the Ocean Lobby.
There's nobody here.
My mouth is dry.
It's like I'm trapped on a runaway train.
No, this is worse.
The RMS Atlantica is steaming out into the ocean and I am the only person on board.
This was supposed to be the holiday of a lifetime for Cas. Now she just needs to survive.
With the drama of The Woman in Cabin 10 and the tension of And Then There Were None, The Last Passenger is a psychological thriller set aboard a cruise ship about a woman whose seemingly ordinary life is suddenly thrown dramatically off course. Will Dean is the master of intense suspense and this novel is full of his trademark twists and turns.

Hard to talk about this story without spoilers. My only negative feedback is I preferred it to be darker at the end. Felt the ending was too rushed and too obvious.
I really didn’t mind that the story was far fetched as it’s great if authors push boundaries and the art of the possible to create new and innovative stories.
I definitely recommend as its unique story and great fun.
Great concept and entertaining

The protagonist was difficult to relate to, especially at the beginning where she appears very timid and dull. The book explored her past and the reasons for her mental durability but there was no explanation for her physical capability.
I enjoyed the suspense of the early part of the book, however I found the main plot reveal to be predictably irritating. It grew on me as an idea as it became increasingly sinister but the end ruined it for me. It was so obvious that I spent the final few chapters hoping that the author wouldn’t go there and then he did, which was disappointing.
I’m trying not to give too much away but below might be a POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT!
Ultimately there is little here that hasn’t been seen before. Reminiscent of the film ‘The Game’ with Michael Douglas, the gleeful anguish and disturbing horror of Squid Game plus the cheap shocks and gore of the ‘Final Destination’ series, with a bit of 1984 paranoia thrown in. If you like a simple thriller and find a bit of mild horror fun then you will enjoy this book, but if you’re an avid reader or film-buff of the relevant genres then you will already know this story.
Plain sailing
