Summary

An ancient evil descends on the Central European capital city of Budapest. A supernatural killer stalks its timeworn alleyways, provoking terror among its distraught population and leaving untraceable and shocking murders in its wake. An estranged American family finds itself at the center of the unnatural violence. Confronting a vicious predator, they find they must band together if they are to survive its ageless and malevolent curse. But, as they come to grips with their horrid adversary, their time and options for escape dwindle, and they can only hope that overcoming their wicked foe will not cost them everything.

Not really horror

The basic concept of this story is about a family living in Budapest who were split apart by the father's drinking and cheating on his wife. A large part of the book is set on the issues between the now divorced parents and the daughter's need for her parents to get back together again. Almost as a side story is the fact that there is a Huntsman killing many people connected to the family. The author lets you know very early on that the murders are directly connected to the daughter. It's weird therefore that none of the parents worked this out and just kept saying it was a 'coincidence' that people they knew kept dying. There is a very obvious pattern to the murders. Even the police came across as stupid because they couldn't work out the obvious. I didn't like any of the characters and wouldn't really classify this book as horror as none of it was scary. For me, it would have been a better story if the author just focused on the Huntsman especially as this was the most interesting part of the story, but he actually featured very little throughout the book. Also all the female characters sounded the same and were always narrated as annoyed and bitchy regardless of the narrative. I didn't enjoy this book.

Huntsman

Loved listening to Jonathan Waters, already first class

The characters are interesting and the story moves with a good pace . You will find it scary in some parts and you will be on the edge of your seat. The ending is a surprise as well.

The Huntsman of Corvinus

I never really felt the supernatural element of the book until it was explained in the last 30 minutes and the atmosphere didn’t really come through in the story for me either. I can kind of see where the author was going with it and I like the premise but I think it needed a little more refining.
Well narrated with some good voices but the pacing and atmosphere didn’t pull me in.
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

And they thought they had problems…

Erica and Laszlo or divorce and trying to raise their Moody 12 year old daughter Monica. Loved and spoiled by both parents, if they could only get along. This family think they have problems. They haven’t seen anything, that is until the Huntsman showed up and start killing people that they know. Even once trying to stab Laski through his windshield causing him an overnight stay in hospital. All this right when Erica is starting todate and her first prospect is Adam. He is an I T guy and fits the profile perfectly. Even taking a hasty exit when he finds out what’s happening in our life, But that won’t stop him from being involved. This story was so good I love the characters and the authors writing style The fact it was narrated by one of my favorite narrators was a happy coincidence. I think Jonathan Waters is one of the best narrator in the audio business. He takes a great book and makes it even better and that’s what he did with the Huntsman of Corvallis. It is set in Budapest and his accent was spot on as it always is. Once the action starts it doesn’t stop and elbow the Huntsman is a loan Hunter the tower grips the city and the police department. I highly recommend this book to those who love horror stories in ancient demons who have a tendency to return, not to mention the mystery as to why he is there please forgive any grammatical or punctuation or errors as I am blind and dictate my review, but all reviews or my own.
