Summary

In a snow-covered morning in upstate New York, a girl out riding her horse is hit by a 40-ton truck. Though horribly injured, both 13-year-old Grace and her horse Pilgrim survive. Annie, Grace's mother, refuses to have Pilgrim destroyed and hears about a man in Montana, a 'whisperer' who is said to have the gift of healing troubled horses. They set off across the continent to find him and there, under the massive Montana sky, all their lives are changed forever.

A poignant tale

The Horse Whisperer is a beautiful descriptive story that is very well worked and gently woven together. In the manner of true penmanship the author encourages the reader to form emotional ties and develop familiar relationships with the story’s characters, which are excellently created and brilliantly portrayed.

It is a tale that expresses the human condition and our basic need for love, healing and acceptance and how that which is thought to be damaged and broken beyond repair can be the catalyst in completing the circle of life as we know it to be.

Never a dull moment to be had as this book sweeps the reader away upon a tumultuous, emotional and entertaining journey that any one can identify with

One Of The Best I've Read.

The author's descriptions are so vivid, so absolutely beautiful, from the breath taking views of Montana to the characters, their feelings and situations!
His portrayal of the romantic scenes left me feeling I'd witnessed it all and longing for those same situations and surroundings.
One RealHeartstring grabber of a book!

Love the story, but the narrator spoils it...

I tried and tried, but the narrator’s voice for the women sounded loud, annoying and camp, and he made the male characters sound like arrogant, rude idiots. I gave up.

This was heading for a 4-5*, but...

I was really enjoying this book, aided by William Dufris's fantastic narration, (unfortunately all too rare in my experience with Audible,) then we got to the sex scenes, which I found a bit cringeworthy, not because of being prudish, I thought it was just badly written, and lacking passion, but no big deal. Then, the whole book was utterly spoilt by a most ridiculous, laughable, cop-out final chapter, it was as if the author couldn't find a suitable ending, for what was quite a beautiful sensitive story, so just went BANG, that will do! and for good measure, I'll just add another really silly post ending bit of nonsense! What a shame.

Take your pick novel / movie

Revisited the movie and was interested to read book. both great. movie deviates more towards end of story and can see why Redford chose his own way. Either way love both. Narrator excellent , made experience all the more enjoyable

Life is never black or white

A powerful story that reminded me that all people have flaws and strengths in their character, they make us what we are today. A great story that is read really well. I struggled to turn it off at bedtime it was so good.
