Summary
Gayle Windham, earl of Westhaven, is the first legitimate son and heir to the duke of Moreland. To escape his father's inexorable pressure to marry, he decides to spend the summer at his townhouse in London, where he finds himself intrigued by the secretive ways of his beautiful housekeeper.
Anna Seaton is a beautiful, talented, educated woman, which is why it is so puzzling to Gayle Windham that she works as his housekeeper. As the two draw closer and begin to lose their hearts to each other, Anna's secrets threaten to bring the earl's orderly life crashing down - and he doesn't know how he's going to protect her from the fallout.

Absolutely fantastic!
*review by the missus * I have been a fan of Grace Burrowes's work for many years, and practically inhale her books! I love the rich regency world she has created: the characters, how they interact with each other, the humour present in each book and of course...the steaminess This was one of the very first books of hers I read and so I was thrilled to discover it here on audible. And it did not disappoint! I loved James Langton's voice acting of all the characters, he really brought them alive for me. Westhaven is my favourite of all Grace Burrowes literary heroes, and Langton completely did him justice. I loved his humour and passion with Anna, his interaction with his brothers, his protectiveness and his respect and love for Anna and his family. Even for his insufferable father, the Duke. The steamy sections were, I have to say, a million times better being voice acted...very, very hot, but never vulgar. If historical romance, with a bit of raunch is your bag, then give this a go. If only NF or other streaming services would make this (and her other books) into a TV series...

An absorbing and evocative read
The plot was well crafted with interesting twists that revealed complex but consistent characters that drew the reader into the book

The love affair becomes tedious.
The hero is an Earl, but he always talks about his wife being a Duchess and not a Countess.
The main story is good, and the secondary characters are interesting.
The affairs is full of "We can't do that", " We shouldn't do that," We mustn't do it again", ...................
Extremely tedious, as naturally they continue regardless. Despite her living and working as a domestic, having seen the harsher side of life, she doesn't know she is pregnant.
There is a lot of detailed and description of their elicit sexual encounters.

Disappointing
The story is ridiculous. An earl forever chomping marzipan and muffins and quaffing highly sweetened lemonade by the bucketload. The courting of his housekeeper encouraged by his younger brother deemed to be acceptable to his father, the duke. The narrator cannot do female voices.
