About this listen
Seven years have passed since Mordecai’s battle with the Shining God, Celior.
Since that time, his control of his abilities has vastly improved. He has, at last, envisioned a use for the ‘God-Stone’, but the gods want vengeance and now seek to destroy everything he has built. The secrets of the past threaten the future of his kingdom, his family, and perhaps humanity itself, unless Mordecai can discover the meaning of ‘Illeniel’s Doom’.
How far will a desperate wizard go to protect his children…or will his efforts merely damn them all?

Starts bit slow but ramps up hard
I honestly don't even know what to say right after finishing this.
Book 4 starts off incredibly strangely. 7 year time skip and it focuses almost entirely on Mordecai's new building project for a good while until it starts going anywhere.
But when it starts going it's one crazy train. I listened to last 8 hours all in one sitting because I just could not stop and go to bed.
The more I listen the more I understand why fans are dissatisfied with Manning's Art of the Adept series, Mageborn simply blows it out of the water.
I'm positively surprised that the answer to all questions isn't simply "I'm an Archmage, get bent!" like I honestly assumed it would be after book 3. In fact it seems like Mordecai is quite reserved when it comes to using his powers as an Archmage, probably because of how close he got to becoming one with the earth in last book.
Everything just kinda comes together, characters other than Mord get to shine and plenty of lore opens up. Though I must say it's really hard to just carry on with 5th book instead of immediately hitting the Embers seriea because of said Lore Cookies.
What an incredible series and what an ending to penultimate book. I'm super hyped for book 5 and then listening to Embers of Illeniel series as well as champions, though I might take a break and listen to something else first because that's 2 entire trilogies right there.
