The culmination of master psychiatrist Dr. Irvin D. Yalom's more than thirty-five years in clinical practice, The Gift of Therapy is a remarkable and essential guidebook that illustrates through real case studies how patients and therapists alike can get the most out of therapy.

The bestselling author of Love's Executioner shares his uniquely fresh approach and the valuable insights he has gained-presented as eighty-five personal and provocative 'tips for beginner therapists', including:

  • Let the patient matter to you
  • Acknowledge your errors
  • Create a new therapy for each patient

Super interesting!!

Overall I loved the book, especially because of all its practical vignettes. Whilst listening to it I felt grateful for having the opportunity to learn from such an experienced master of psychotherapy.

A real gift from Yalom

Sadly, it can’t be long now before we lose Irv Yalom. This book is a marvellous, life affirming example of him at his best, a great example of him “rippling” - paying it forward to a new generation of therapists and their clients, with effects that will long outlast him. A moving and important book about being real, authentic and human in therapy and how that can make all the difference.

insightful, reflective & authentic

This was suggested to me by my personal therapist. In many ways this book has been a gift and useful to reflect on my own practice, but also to understand my therapist more. I am a training music therapist and have found these experiences extremely insightful. Thank you. ❤️✨️

Absolute Must Read for any new therapists

This book has been a brilliant source of real knowledge from a experienced point of view.
There is over 80 chapters but some are very small snippets of information while others are a but more lengthy.
Very easy listen and I have clipped and bookmarked this book more than any other.
