About this listen
Thirty-eight year old Cassandra is lost, alone, and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident 10 years ago, feels like she has lost everything known and dear to her.
But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra's life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace Rutherford - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early twentieth century - as well as a cliff-top cottage on the other side of the world, Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell, on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past; little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself.

Yawn!
I found this irritatingly long winded and the jumps backwards and forwards in time were too frequent. I lost patience about a third of the way through.

the forgotten garden
I had already read this book a couple of times and enjoyed it very much so thought it would be good to have the story playing whilst I work. The narrator managed the tale well and was convincing and engaging until she tackled the Cornish accent. I live in Cornwall so have to admit that I found it amusing to begin with but increasingly irritating as the story went on. It is a shame as it mars what would otherwise be a very good listen.

Another great story!
Another great story by Kate Morton, brilliantly read by Caroline Lee. As always, the story telling was so clever that I feel close to each character: I will miss them.....always the sign of a great book in my view!

It takes you to a wonderful place
I just finish listening to this book. For 5 days, I gave up my every free moment to listen to it. It got my attention in the first five minutes, and I am deeply sad it has ended already. It's a family story, told by three characters, in three diferent times. It has mistery, drama and just a little touch of romance (the correct amount, if you ask me). The narrative is fluid and the passages from one time to another easy to follow and well connected to each other. If you're a hopeless fan of images from the 1900's and family stories, this is the book for you.

Nice storyline but, heavens, the accents!
This story was ok, I liked the different people telling their stories in different times and places, though the it was obvious from early on what had happened
What I really disliked was the reader's inability to capture the accents!
Why were all the natives of Cornwall speaking with Irish accents?
Why was a girl from a Victorian aristocratic family talking like an Australian?
I have been lucky so far with my Audible choices, the readers have enhanced the experience, sadly not so in this case.

Mesmerising
A wonderful but tragic story, characters were mesmerising. Narrator's accents were questionable though, more Irish than Cornwall. Managed to overlook this as the story was so engrosing.

Loved the unfolding story
I loved this story.
The narrator was great but sadly not so great at UK accents, particularly the West Country accent which was odd and stilted. Once I got over that, it was fine!
