Summary

Dr. Theo Cray and FBI agent Jessica Blackwood follow a deadly celestial trail in a thrilling novel by the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Mastermind.

A signal is detected at the outer edge of the solar system. Computational biologist Dr. Theo Cray and magician-turned-FBI-agent Jessica Blackwood are looking—and listening—a little closer.

The man at the center of this cosmic mystery is billionaire Thomas T. Theismann. He’s spent a lifetime—and a fortune—trying to find out if we’re alone in the universe. Highly skeptical, Theo joins the effort to find the source of the signal, and he quickly enlists Jessica to look into the suspicious death of another academic at the lab. As their investigations converge, they uncover curious connections to the otherworldly contact, including a 1970s science-fiction writer and the body of an astronaut found buried in an ancient tomb.

As they delve into Theismann’s history, Theo and Jessica’s fascination with the signal intensifies. How dangerous will the investigation get? That depends on how deep into the unknown Theo and Jessica are prepared to venture.

story interesting but female performance terrible

I did enjoy the story but Jennifer O'Donnell was putting too many spaces in her lecture and drove me nuts 🤪.

I’m torn on this one…

I love the Theo Cray and the Jessica Blackwood series. I thought the first book that combined the two was very good. This is a good book, don’t get me wrong but it doesn’t have a real connection to either series. Both of the original series were unique murder procedurals. This book is much more sci-fi. A billionaire who believes there is other intelligent life beyond Earth thinks he’s gotten a signal from an alien. He’s hired scientists but it appears one of them has committed suicide. This will eventually be proven false, it was not suicide.
Both Jessica and Theo conduct an investigation but they do so independently for the most part and I felt like a lot of potential interaction was missing. I thought this was a very good book but the characters did not stay true to their origins. For me this felt like any two character names could have been plugged in and the story would have worked. What didn’t work for me was that it was Jessica and Theo.
That being said, this is a very good book and I do Recommend it but as a standalone and independent of either series, if that makes sense.
Will Damron and Jennifer O’Donnell did a great job narrating. They work very well together.

well worth the wait

My review is simply when will the next installment be released?. I really like these two characters and how Mayne intertwines them and their roles. Theo & Jessica's way of thinking is different but they both think outside the box. This us a great boom with lots of twists and turns. If you like mystery and intrigue this is the book for you as well as Mayne's other books.

It’s fun! Don’t over think it.

I love Andrew Mayne books and this one was no exception! Is the science a little questionable? Sure. Are the stories always a tad cheesy? Absolutely. Does Will Dameron have to read lots of ones and zeroes? You know it.

It’s worth a credit if you are just here for a good time and not the type to over think things too much.

Interesting search for alien life

An intriguing story about a rich man’s lifetime search for other world signals. Have they finally received such signals, or is it a hoax. People are disappearing or dying while Dr. Cray and his FBI girlfriend search for answers. In the process, Dr. Cray explains several scientific concepts.

one of my favorites

I rarely write reviews, but for this 1, I will.
I go through anywhere from 3-6 audiobooks a week, depending on length. I listen while I work, shower, do hobbies, go to sleep, etc.
this series, this author, the Theo Cray and Jessica blackwood series, separately, are one of my favorites. I truly enjoy science and I love crime fiction.
the narrator's are fantastic, also. both of them do an amazing job and make the books that much better.
this book did not disappoint, was worth the credit, and I recommend both series leading up to this one and the book before this one. I've recommended to personal friends and I've listened to the Theo Cray series a few times, by itself.
WORTH IT!
