Summary

Since his arrival in Talohna, Kael Symes has experienced some of the worst that it has to offer. However, when he wakes from a frightening coma, he finds that Talohna’s magic may be permanently broken, and a dire new threat is situated on Solikyr’s doorstep....

With a terrifying and powerful faction so close to his new home, Kael does everything he can to shore up the unstable alliance brokered by Ember and Max before their departure for the World Peace Summit. However, Treach’s unannounced arrival at Solikyr Castle during his search for Niis’ final resting place and a shocking revelation from the summit force Kael and his new apprentice to search for a way to get to Corynth before disaster strikes.

Forced to travel part of the way overland, Kael, Kenna and Sephi stumble across what appears to be a Ri’Tek invasion of Stillwater in Northern Cethos. Though seriously outnumbered and helpless to stop the invasion, Kael and Sephi do manage to help an important witness escape the fighting before pushing on to Corynth.

Protected by the summit’s diplomatic immunity laws, Kael joins Ember and Max in a desperate bid to expose the Ri’Tek for who they truly are, but even the testimony of a high-standing witness may not be enough to sway the World Council to act, leaving Queen Bale no choice but to finally respond to the Ri’Tek on her own. But faced with the invasion, will the stubborn Cethosian queen actually send her troops to war, or will the insurmountable odds finally force Cethos to its knees? With the Ri’Tek firmly entrenched in Stillwater and war looming on the horizon, the Vikress' plan quickly comes to light, forcing events down a nightmare path no one could have ever imagined...a path that may lead to Talohna's long forgotten past and a long forgotten goddess.

Lost its way, needs more solid editing

First of all let me say I love this series, abd the author the wider concept and world building was great in the first three books. Book four started to have larger editorial issues, plus it’s like the chronology previously established by the author is forgotten with events taking place years earlier than possible. It’s as if the author forgot in between the time jumps which feel like they’ve become a tool to speed up the writing. Book five is even more disjointed seeing time periods repeatedly from different characters perspectives add the use of the wrong characters voice or name within a few sentences e.g x died years ago then x is taking part in a ritual in a few weeks. It’s feels like the inter dimensional sci fi element has gone so wide so quickly the characters instincts and decision making has got lost, stopping the main protagonists has also got lost as they win everything whilst the characters go in circles most of all we are given so much information there is no way to process it all, whilst keeping track of the historic plot key points and all. Not to mention the decision with y.

Another fantastic book

JD Franx is fast becoming one of my favourite fantasy authors. Franx books are perfect for escaping I to a realm of the imagination.

I hope Franx starts getting the attention he deserve; as he has the potential to be truly excellent, and is already deserving of praise.

P.s. if this was ever a RPG it would be amazing.

At This Point I'm Out!

So, I have listened to this from book 1 and now it has reached a level where it's just nonsense and the MC has no spine at all. He gets betrayed over and over but is still friends with the same people even after they cause the death of his wife and could end the world. Yeah, this isn't for me because after the first time, you would be dead. Then the unwillingness of the MC to kill the bad guys is just a joke of book to me. Yeah, I'm out and this is it for me.

reminiscent of Robert jordan

While the story is good with a fabulous narrator, I'm beginning to wonder when the author will wrap up the storyline. or will he be like Robert Jordan and die before it's done.

stop the cash grab!

first off let me say that I am a big fan of Sword & sorcery. but too often the authors of these books string out the story till it becomes uninteresting. can we start getting a beginning a middle and an end maybe wrap these things up in for books three would be better and Carry On To The Next story

Really good read

When I started the series I wasn’t sure with how the story jumped back and forth. But as I continued the story pulled me in hook line and sinker. Franx world building is top notch. And damn does he know how to leave you on the edge of a cliff. So can’t wait for the next book!!!
