Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Evidence Against You by Gillian McAllister, read by Zoe Telford.

Don't miss the new thriller from the best-selling author of Anything You Do Say and No Further Questions.

It's the day her father will be released from jail. Izzy English has every reason to feel conflicted - he's the man who gave her a childhood filled with happy memories. But he has also just served 17 years for the murder of her mother.

Now, Izzy's father sends her a letter. He wants to talk, to defend himself against each piece of evidence from his trial. But should she give him the benefit of the doubt? Or is her father guilty as charged and luring her into a trap?

No tension build up but nice story.

The story is solid and it works but I didn't feel myself hanging on to their every word waiting for them to solve this mystery, the reveals fell flat and even when she's learning new things it didn't set my mind racing trying to fit all the facts together.
The main characters are well thought out but all else fell away.

The narrator manages to whisper for 14 hours straight so kudos to them. Not sure it added much to the overall story telling but it did mean I had to concentrate even more just to stay with the story.

Overall its average at best.

Rather tedious and irritating narration

This dragged on too long. The narrator had a condescending tone rather like reading to a group of infants. I got to the end but not impressed

Absolutely brilliant!

Another fantastic book from Gillian McAllister. Listened to it in two days and every word had me gripped. The characters were so believable and I could relate to so much of the story line. Some parts had me smiling and some brought a tear to my eyes. Zoe did an amazing job with the narration and really brought the story to life. I will be looking for more books she's narrated. . Gillian, please keep on writing :-)

good, but not as good as her other one

not as good as "no further questions" which was amazing. this one didn't get my brain working and guessing as much. it was more slow and boring. I wasn't as invested in the characters. they were drab. but the quality of writing was fantastic, and I thought the narration was good too. The reveal was anti climactic, even though I didn't guess it. the ending wasn't as happy as I thought it would be.

I will definitely read more McAllister but I do hope the rest are of the same fast paced calibre if No Further Questions

A let down from Gillian

I’ve read or listened to other books by Gillian McAllister and was spellbound. This time, I was bored. And it took 14 hours of my time! The narrator unfortunately spoiled it, too. Whispering in hushed tones for the entire book, with a slightly dodgy Northern Irish accent. But really, the story was just dull. I didn’t really care in the end about any of the characters. So twists or not, I just wanted to get to the end so I could start another book!

Beautifully judged

I love this writer. The characters are subtle, complex and engaging. Yes, there is suspense and a murder at the centre of the story - but the real story is the emotional impact this event has on her daughter and husband. Gillian McAllister avoids cliche and generalisation that can so often ruin this genre. This is just a really well written novel, that happens to be about a murder. The narrator is very classy. At first I was annoyed by her slightly underpowered, whispery vocalisation (it was hard to hear on the tube) - but I got used to it. Her pacing, characterisation and use of intonation is spot on. All round, this is a great listen!
