About this listen

Imperial agent Cassius Corbulo is about to go rogue. His bodyguard, Indavara, has been kidnapped and has seemingly vanished off the face of the earth. Having spent weeks trying to discover his fate, Cassius's time is up: his superiors want him to return to duty. But when an old ally's daughter is enslaved, he feels obliged to repay a long standing debt.

Refusing the offer of a prestigious post, Cassius - and his Christian servant Simo - join nomadic chieftain Kabir and a trio of warriors, determined to rescue the missing girl. Now operating outside the law, the unlikely band journey across the perilous plague-ridden hinterland of Asia Minor, hunting the slavers. But these are no common criminals, and Cassius finds himself up against ruthless, cunning men with powerful friends and a lot to lose.

Preposterous

A fantastic story . . . but . . How can there not be the next in the series? I'm sitting on edge wondering what the next steps will be for our 3 heroes. Totally thoughtless of the author not to have an other book ready for me after this. I just cant wait. Come on, someone, please, get the next book out.

Great series of books

This author has written a series of books that's in good company with the likes of Simon Scarrow, SJA Turney and Anthony Riches. In fact I think they're a close 2nd to the Eagles series by Simon Scarrow.

It breaks from the usual story lines in that they a ancient take on detective stories, a roman Morse perhaps.

The series was well narrated and in a few parts had me laughing out loud.

A little known author and not best selling books, why this is the case escapes me, well written plots with twists and turns with a dash of humour.

Shame there are only 7 books

Up there with the best

I have read and listened to almost a hundred Roman historical fiction books. This series is up there with the best. Narration is first rate. Thoroughly enjoyable all round.

Compelling

Great story and now beloved characters . The narrator didn't have his best outing to be frank, but still a great book

Addictive reading

Another excellent story. The characters are evolving and the adventures more perilous. Can’t wait to listen to the next story.
