About this listen
For countless millennia, no man or beast has ever succeeded in breaching the stone gateway into Girdlegard. Until now....
Abandoned as a child, Tungdil the blacksmith is the only dwarf in a kingdom of men. But when he is sent out into the world to deliver a message and reacquaint himself with his people, the young foundling finds himself thrust into a battle for which he has not been trained.
Not only his own safety, but the life of every man, woman and child in Girdlegard depends upon his ability to embrace his heritage. Although he has many unanswered questions, Tungdil is certain of one thing: no matter where he was raised, he is a true dwarf. And no one has ever questioned the courage of the Dwarves.

Excellent
Excellent story! Narrator a little quick in his reading and why oh why are all dwarves Scottish? Given the Welsh are miners and tend to be shorter wouldn't that be a better accent?

Excellent narrator
Matthew Wolf does an excellent job narrating this large and varied cast. He brought the characters to life, understanding their emotions and motivations which gave the characters far more depth.
I enjoyed the story, which had some interesting twists. It was fascinating to delve deep into the world of dwarves, a welcome change from humans and elves.
The characters shone as they developed and I would have liked more of this.

Fantastical Dwarven Adventure 4 stars
A slow starter for me but worth the wait. The characters, timelines, orbits, realms, kimgdoms take a while to wrap your head around but go on to create enjoyable fantasy. The story follows a nice sweeping arch of characters on a journey. I enjoyed the narration and variety of voices. Some convenient plot but that made for a good pace and reliable outcome. Will definitely read the next two too.

The Dwarves more human and more real than many human heroes
an original and enthralling storyline with believable characters who are not perfect but so much more real for it.

Fantastic start to the trilogy
What did you like most about The Dwarves?
My favourite characters were the twins and of course Tungdil, a story that is fast paced and keeps you absorbed the whole time never going slow or flat at all, for me what made this extra special was the narrater Mathew Wolf who is by far was the best I have ever heard, his accents are spot on and everything about the way he tells the story draws you in at all times I do hope they use him for future books as the second book which madly was on Amazon Audible before the first has a different Narrater who uses different accents for the characters and looses the plot when it comes to voicing his accents that never sound quite right one being a welsh accent that descends into Cornish continually
What other book might you compare The Dwarves to, and why?
I think I would compare this book to some of Raymond e Feist books and a touch of Lord of the rings
Which character – as performed by Matthew Wolf – was your favourite?
My favourite was Mathews interpretation of the twins
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
What moved me was the parts that involved fights with the Alfar the bad elves
Any additional comments?
If in any doubt about buying this audible book, trust me buy it and you will be rivited from the start
