Worse narration ever..
The reason I won’t read Loretta Chase is because she likes the word “said” too much. It was always he said she said he said she said, over and over again. No, he bellowed, she yelled, he remarked, she muttered, just the word “said.” Well, this author was the same way. There were 232 pages in this book and the word “said” was used 427 times. Claimed was used once, murmured twice, muttered zero, whispered fourteen, remarked zero, yelled three. So, no imagination when it comes to conversations. Oh, before I forget, I was wondering who the killer was but if you read the blurb on the Reluctant Rancher, the second book in this series, you’ll find out. I read it and it kind of spoiled it for me so you might want to NOT read that. I was only curious as to what the next story was about and got more than I was looking for.
At 28% I quit. Mostly because of the narrator but also the book is too boring. Cami insists she’s engaged to Clay but goes dancing with Breck then out to dinner with E.J. She’s too flighty and indecisive for me.
As to the narrator: Horrible! Every single person sounded just alike, not even the slightest change in a voice. The narrator neither laughed, whispered, murmured, exclaimed, NOTHING! All she did was read the book, in a very monotone voice. I would never listen to her again. Unfortunately, I bought the second book in this series so let’s hope she got a little better in the 2 months it took to narrate the second book.
Even free it wasn’t worth it.
