About this listen

A hugely enjoyable, must-listen murder mystery sure to appeal to fans of Elly Griffiths, Anthony Horowitz, and Agatha Christie, with one of the best and most satisfying conclusions you'll ever hear. A classic in Japan, available in English for the first time.

I enjoyed the story which is well paced and presented for a lover of golden age detective stories.

The narrator is quite good BUT the accent is distinctly American, which seems to be quite common in readers of translations from Japanese books, it passes but is, initially incongruous.

Good twist on a classic

This was an enjoyable tribute to the Queen of Crime and was a satisfying amble through the clues with a rewarding finish.
The narration was horrible. The American accent didn’t seem fitting for a distinctly Japanese novel but more than the the voice actor’s voice sounded like AI. His tone on top of some very strange pronunciation was very off-putting.
I would read other books by this author, but I certainly wouldn’t choose to listen to the narrator again.

A good tribute

A fun murder mystery. Well written with fun characters. if you like Agatha Christie then you'll enjoy this modern reimagining.

A fun reimagining of And Then There Were None

I wanted to like this, as it was effusively recommended to me, the premise sounded intriguing, and supposedly it has a very satisfying ending, but unfortunately I did not enjoy it. I had to stop after an hour because the narration was so jarring. It often sounded like a computer-generated version of a voice, with weird moments of erroneously elongated syllables and very little dramatic inflection. It imbued the whole thing with the tone of a train announcement, which made it impossible for me to get into it. Sorry.

Disappointing

I found this book quite dry, clinical and dull and tried audible to make it easier. Unfortunately PJ Ochan's narration was equally flat and unemotive. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy either the text or audiobook. It may be that other listeners enjoy this type of book and style of delivery.

Dry and Clinical Whodunnit
