About this listen
Fantasy author David Dalglish continues his series of the half-orc brothers, whose struggles have released demon fire across the land of Dezrel.
After a bloody conflict with his brother, Qurrah Tun flees west with his lover, the strange and powerful Tessanna.
He seeks a powerful tome known as Darakken's spellbook, guarded by paladins and priests of light. Qurrah hopes to cure Tessanna's madness, but his newly returned master, Velixar, has far greater plans for the tome.
Only Harruq Tun and his friends can stand against the darkness his brother has unleashed. Velixar wants the throne and the secret that it hides, and to do so he will lay siege to the great city of Veldaren.
The gods' final war has begun, and the blood is on Harruq's hands.

even though I received this copy to provide a non-biased review I can honestly say that I will be buying the previous two of the series and following the series through to the end.

However, the rapid rate of progress on the overall story-line soon hooked me as the author ramped things up quite nicely, even if he did feel the need to add in one shocking moment that was nowhere near as effective as similar incidents in the previous book.
The narrator continues to produce strong performances in this series, getting across distinct voices and personalities of each character very well to enhance my overall impression of the book.

Epic story continues in dramatic fashion

As with the others in this series, It is clearly in a Dungeons and Dragons type setting with swords, magic, gods, apparent character classes. If you know what a D20 is and like audiobooks give this one a go.
The characters are extremely well done and this series of books is one of the best out there. Each character has their own unique voice that truly fits them perfectly. It truly has emotional weight pulling not punches, horrible things happen and it is not OK nor should it be and each character reacts to these things in their own way. It feels like the characters are not slaves to the plot it is their actions, their decisions that move the story forward.
To truly appreciate this book you have to have listened to the previous ones in the series, it will add a lot to the characters development and emotions but I will stand on its own as an interesting book. The characters journey and development all the way from the first book has been believable and some of the best examples of character development in fiction I have encountered.
Yet again both C.J. McAllister the narrator and David Dalglish the author have done amazing work, I can not wait to listen to the next book in this series.
I would highly recommend listening to this book but listen to the first two first for maximum enjoyment.
5/5 one of the best books I have listened to this year.

I'll be honest, I think I had settled into a relationship with the narrator where I would zone out for a time and come back in later. In the earlier books this was not a problem, but in this one there are so many characters introduced that it meant I couldn't work out who was who and which side they were on. Obviously this is on me, and not something to hold against the book.
Massive change in scope and pace
