Summary
The Dead Don't Dance is a bittersweet yet triumphant love story - a tale of one man's journey through the darkness of despair and into the light of hope.
In a sleepy rural town in South Carolina, Dylan and Maggie Styles are a young couple in love, preparing eagerly for the birth of their first son. But events take a tragic turn in the delivery room, and their child is delivered stillborn. When Maggie hemorrhages and slips into a coma, Dylan slips into what can only be described as a walking coma, holding vigil at his beloved wife’s bedside.
Usually tough and self-reliant, an outdoorsman and a farmer, Dylan finds that everything he has known is suddenly thrown into doubt. Refusing to give up on Maggie’s recovery, a devastated Dylan takes a job as an English professor in order to pay for Maggie’s medical bills. Dylan connects with his students despite himself and offers hope to others amid his own disappointment and grief. As Dylan waits for some change in Maggie's condition, he reflects on his life and hers.
Through friends and grace-filled moments of insight, Dylan slowly begins to heal, but it will take a second tragedy - and an anxious period of wrestling with God - to truly awaken him from his stupor and open him up to a new life.

Seriously in love
I can not get enough of Charles Martin books. The combination of his way to tell a story and Jonathan Riggs voice and performance is amazing. I find my self envisioning myself in the scene. Every time Jonathan Riggs says Dillon Styles like Maggie would I get warm fuzzies. I love southern people and southern people of faith are just my absolute favorite. I feel like I have come home to my roots of Texas.
Love this book too! I am buying paperback so my daughter and granddaughter can read too! Thank so much that I can share with them and not be uncomfortable with what they might read.
Ok next is Maggie!

Really enjoyed!!
I really enjoyed this book. Love Charles Martin!! This is the second book narrated by Jonathan Riggs that I’ve listened to by Charles. His voice is so comforting and natural to me. Listening to a Charles Martin book especially read by Jonathan Riggs is like having a good visit from an old friend to me. I’m ready to download the next one, “Maggie”. You can’t go wrong with any of his books!!

Beautiful story of real love!
My heart is so moved by the writing of this mesmerizing story. It is written by a heart who truly shares an unconditional love for another. While it is noted to be a book of fiction, Charles Martin brings the life of the written word to full bloom with it’s trueness of pure love within each chapter.

Best story
This is my favorite of Charles Martins books. I’ve read the book sometime ago and now listened to Mr Riggs read it. It is the most touching love story I have ever read. The characters are all so tender hearted. Mr. Martin sure knows how to draw them especially the young men in college. Marvin with chip on his shoulder. Dylan showing him him how to stretch his responsibility. Of course Amos a lovely man who every one would wish to have as a good friend. But, most of all Dylan taught us how to love completely with no reservation. Such poignant feelings expressed.
My review doesn’t do Charles Martin justice as he writes magnificently.
I would read anything he writes. I’m a fan!

The Dead Don't Dance
I absolutely love Charles Martin's stories and his writing style. I would love to see his books made into movies. I loved the mountain between us movie. His writing renews my confidence in the human race, especially in these stressful times. If Mr. Martin writes it, I will read it.

Martin always delivers a moral tale with a morale
This is a true love story in the midst of tragedy, uncertainty, and lost hope. Whose to say when it is over, when it is time to give up or who is beyond redemption? The main character, a quasi farmer professor finds that everyone is struggling with these questions. Even when answers are not forthcoming, there is grace to give and to get.

A satisfying and heartfelt story.
Can't say enough about Charles Martin. I love his work and ministry. He always leaves me longing for more, and longing to be a better person. His stories make me want to reach out to the hurting, look for someone who just might need a kind word.
My only critique is that the narration was a bit hurried, but who am I to judge. I am reading everything I can get my hands on by this wonderful storyteller.
