Summary
Your new husband has a shocking secret. Would your mother-in-law kill to protect it?
From the moment I meet my new mother-in-law in her beautiful country house, she makes it clear I’m not welcome. Lilian Fletcher hates me for marrying her precious boy on a golden beach far away from her.
Starting our marriage living in the Fletchers’ family home is a nightmare. Then I discover Seb was married before and his first wife is dead. I wonder why the man I love didn’t tell me the truth. And I wonder what happened to her: the woman who came before me. How did she die?
Lilian’s steely blue gaze follows me everywhere. Then the accidents start to happen, and I know she is behind them. It starts with small things, like a dropped birthday cake, a spilt glass of wine. But then my mother-in-law accuses me of something terrible. This woman is determined to get me out of her son’s life.
Now I wish I’d never met my handsome, clever husband. Or come to this luxurious house that feels more like a prison.
But I have secrets too. And no-one knows who I really am….
From the USA Today best-selling author, this totally addictive psychological thriller will keep you guessing all the way to the final shocking twist. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us.

Absolutely BRILLIANT 💯👏🏽Katie is one of the top narrator’s💯👏🏽
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Katie completely made this book and i LOVE when i see a book I really want and it’s Katie who is the narrator. She is one of my favourite narrator’s. She is definitely up there in the top 10💯👏🏽 This story keeps you gripped right through and you need to know what happens next. I jump from book to book usually and im VERY fussy and I don’t get gripped easily. I only leave reviews if i have enjoyed a book LOTS, and i don’t leave reviews if i don’t like a book and return it because there’s not such a thing as a bad book as they say😊 everyone has different likes and dislikes. I also feel really sorry for author’s who get so much nasty things said in reviews ☹️it’s just not needed! I highly recommend this book, you will be hooked straight away and you will never guess the twists or the ACTUAL story🤗 I never seen any the twists coming which i LOVE when im wrong or i didn’t even think there was a twist 😲🤣 so thank you Shalini for an AMAZING book!💯👏🏽 i will be looking for more of your books right now thank you🥰😊 Thank you Katie Villa once again for ANOTHER book that you read so so BRILLIANT, you have an AMAZING talent!!💯💯👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you audible for another AMAZING BRILLIANT book! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️❤️xxxx *add on…. I have just seen that Katie Villa is the narrator is just about all your books, and i am DELIGHTED about this🤗🙌🏽 i think every single book i like the sound of so i am about to buy more NOW🤗💃🏻 I have read one of your books and i LOVED it! On to my next Shalini book🤗😊

Shut the curtains and turn out the lights.
Let Katie Villa bring this masterpiece to life for you. Every character is recognisable in somebody you've already met, and every situation is believable. I felt like I was a member of the public sitting in the Royal Oak watching this family and their staff trying to hold everything together. For anybody who has ever run or owned a pub, the punters believe they have a right to know all your business. This is brought to life in this fantastic book. As a budding author, I doff my cap at you Shalini Boland, I inspire to be half as good as you.
A wonderful mystery/thriller.
I've read 93 books so far this year (2022) and this one is in my top ten. ❤️📚

A good listen
I did enjoy this and as all Shalini's books there was a great big twist at the end. Brilliantly narrated by Katie Villa as she has such an adaptable voice to different accents.
The story kept me interested so would recommend

Far fetched!
Very basic plot and totally unbelievable! Katie Villa gets on my nerves by not pronouncing her ings and her awful accents. Very disappointed in this weak excuse for a story. Waste of a credit.

Disappointing
The story is very weak and totally unrealistic. I did listen to the end hoping it would get better but sadly not.

predictable
Huge fan of Shalini Bolands books but this one was too predictable, you guess who it is very early in the book by they behave.

Most disappointing "twist" ever written!
I've enjoyed some of Shalini Boland's work in the past, and this one initially seemed to be one of her best. I was totally engaged in this fast-paced thriller--until suddenly the bubble burst. Following a big "twist", I was left with characters who were extremely nasty, and a storyline that was simply ridiculous. You've got to be kidding, I thought. Do you actually expect me to believe this? I kept hoping that somehow the story would redeem itself, but no such luck. Oh, Shalini, why do you insist on imbedding a twist in everything you write? Overall rating (considering the great beginning): 2.5 stars rounded up

Great suspense story
Shalini Boland really knows how to draw me into a story. I think I know what's going to happen but I'm surprised every time. Katie Villa is a wonderful narrator.

not my favorite
I have read many of her books, but this was not my favorite. It was more like a soap opera, in a my opinion. It didn’t get to psychologically exciting who-done-it until the very end. I will still read more books by this author I just thought it could’ve been a little bit better. I also had a hard time figuring it out which person the narrator was playing. Normally, it’s easy to figure out but not this time. but the overall performance was good and that’s why I give it five stars.

Great narration, awful storyline
Usually I enjoy Shalini Borland’s books. This one missed the mark for me. Katie Villa as always was superb.
