Summary

I should never have become friends with the couple upstairs....

The first time I step inside this cosy apartment with its sash windows, just minutes from the sea, I think it would be the perfect place for me and my partner Zac to start again. A chance to leave our troubled past behind.

Chris and Vanessa, the couple upstairs, are so welcoming: smiles, flowers, a home-baked cake. It’s strange how he does all the talking, and she seems so shy, but I’m just thrilled to have new friends nearby.

But everything starts to go wrong...my business begins to crumble, I can’t ignore the whispers at our housewarming party and loud arguments from upstairs keep me awake at night. I can’t sleep, I can’t think straight and I feel like someone is watching me in my own home.

And then Zac comes home one afternoon, his face clenched with fury, and says he knows what’s going on. He knows about my secret....

He won’t listen to me. He storms out and I’m left in tears, completely devastated.

Why has my life fallen apart since we moved here? Am I going mad? Or is someone trying to destroy us?

If only I’d known what I know now.
If only I hadn’t trusted the couple upstairs.

From the USA Today best-selling author Shalini Boland comes an absolutely heart-thumping psychological thriller with a twist you won’t see coming. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us.

"I have goosebumps.... This book is EVERYTHING!... Had I known I was in for such a wild ride I would have started reading this book earlier in the day instead of being kept all night!" (ThrillByThePage Book Blogger)

predictable

Very well narrated but unfortunately I guessed the ending very very early on. And the main character was annoyingly "proper" though Im sure it was intended :) to be fair, I did want to read on throughout the whole thing, despite the predictable ending

Pretty slow and boring

Really dull and slow. Got bored after a few chapters. The main character was really irritating and there was no structure to the story line it just went on and on with nothing really happening. I gave up!

This is the second Shalini Boland I’ve listened two in two days. Her books are really unputdownable! Brilliant!

review of The Couple Upstairs.

Much of the book was readable, if a bit dull, but the ending, especially the long drawn out explanation of the events, was just about the worst I have ever read. A waste of time andd money. sorry.

Average

I have liked this author in the past but this book seems to take too long to spin out a story. Not really gripping. I enjoy the narrator but overall quite average without too much depth! Plus.. spoiler alert.. Zac????

loved it,

had me double guessing a couple of times but I soon guessed who the bad guy was.
I lived above a person just like this so it touched a nerve a bit.

Disappointing !

I didn't like the orator as soon as she opened her mouth! she had the perfect voice for the main character Nina who was the most annoying, self-centred spoilt little rich brat ever. I hated the character as she was so dull which is in keeping with the storyline and the rest of the characters. I saw the "twist" if you could call it that way before it came. All in all this audiobook is the worst one I have had since joining quite a few years ago.!

Predictable.

It was an ok listen but very predictable and a little hollow. I feel like the big reveal was lacking a lot and I was fully expecting another twist. The characters feel underdeveloped and the story lacks depth. The plots lack cohesion and the constant jumping from week to week is off putting. The middle is long winded but the end feels rushed. I stuck with it to see how it ended and I hoped that the reveal would actually be shocking but it was dry.

Definitely not her best

I generally love Shalini Boland. However I’m mad I even spent a credit on this one. I found myself waiting for some twist that never came. Also I never ever leave bad reviews but feel the need to on this one. Don’t waste the time or credit

Don't waste the credit

The story is ridiculous. The premise, the plot, the characters. Stay far away from this one..
