Don't keep this book a secret

I listened to the first book in the series ages ago and enjoyed it and I have no idea why it took me so long to listen to this book. I won't be making that mistake with book three. I loved it and if I could have listened to it all in one sitting I would have. I really liked the characters and went through so many emotions with them, sadness over the deaths, hope for a happy ending, joy when the results were given and even worry over who the killer would be, I think I went through it all but loved every minute. Cal is such an unusual character and her reluctance to be a special deputy, do the right thing and care for other people is a big reason why it worked so well. She might think she is a lone wolf but the way she sticks up for the under dog is endearing , Her talent to help ghosts is another and added another interesting level to the story. The mystery kept me guessing who the killer was and with a number of suspects I never did guess it right. Off to start the next book.
Calamity 'Cal' James as a special deputy and her partner are asked to over see the town's beauty pageant when tension between the competing mother's heat up. Things take a turn for the worst when one of the favourites to win is found dead. The girls ghost swears she would never eat anything with peanuts in and Cal talks the sheriff into letting her investigate. Her friend and replacement in the contest needs a mentor to be able to continue and Cal finds herself being volunteered for the job. Can she find a killer, keep her charge safe and help the dead girls ghost move on before she becomes revenge full all at the same time? She will have her hands full as the girl is sure she knows who killed her and the new contestant has her own secrets that could prevent her from winning. It's probably not the best time for an ex boyfriend to show up.
I liked the narrator, she helped to bring the story and great characters to life.
