Summary
A spine-tingling tale of steampunk and spies, intrigue and heart-racing romance!
When Katharine Tulman's inheritance is called into question by the rumor that her eccentric uncle is squandering away the family fortune, she is sent to his estate to have him committed to an asylum. But instead of a lunatic, Katharine discovers a genius inventor with his own set of rules, who employs a village of nine hundred people rescued from the workhouses of London.
Katharine is now torn between protecting her own inheritance and preserving the peculiar community she grows to care for deeply. And her choices are made even more complicated by a handsome apprentice, a secretive student, and fears for her own sanity.
As the mysteries of the estate begin to unravel, it is clear that not only is her uncle's world at stake, but also the state of England as Katharine knows it. With twists and turns at every corner, this heart racing adventure will captivate readers with its intrigue, thrills, and romance.

Best find of this year for me!
This was a crazy good story which I was lost in from the first minute it began. The narration performed by Fiona Hardingham is equally as best as Moira Quirk who narrates the Finishing School series and Katherine Kellgren who narrates Her Royal Spyness series! I absolutely fell in love with every single character (some having to work harder for my affection than others),and in the end I have to say this book has been one of my best finds yet.

EXCELLENT NARRATION on a precious story.
! story is wonderful, if at times predictable. The characters are well thought out. I love the Uncle. So often characters with mental illness or quirks are written as caricatures, but the Uncle is fascinating and treated with respect.
The narration though, is amazing! I will be hunting down every single book this woman has narrated. Her acting skill is phenomenal!

Great premise, not so great execution
Any additional comments?
I really wanted to love this book because it has all the makings of a great story, but by the end I was somewhat disappointed. I genuinely loved the characters and the plot was great, but I think the problem was the storytelling didn't feel cohesive throughout the book. I realize the lack of explanations for things was meant to build mystery, but for whatever reason it just didn't work well, and a nice flow to the story was greatly lacking. I also feel like more detail was given to parts of the story that were somewhat confusing or boring, and less detail/time given to the real meat of the story. The parts I wanted to know more about weren't given much depth, and the parts I wanted to spend more time in were cut short and not given enough story time. The narrator was great, though, and I would love to listen to her again.

boring with very little steam punk
This story was lacking a lot, mainly a good plot. there was no humor in it at all, and main character was a fool. There really wasn't much to root for, which made it drag and drag. I'm not going to buy any more from author because it lacked everything I expect from a steampunk story.

Intriguing YA steampunk
Jumped in without looking it up for book club and was presently surprised how much I loved it. Fun, intriguing story, good narrator. I'm still thinking about the end and have lots to say at book club.

Excellent!
Sharon Cameron's complex but understandable story is artfully narrated by Fiona Hardingham. The detailed steampunk world building is persuasive, the main character's personal development is believable, and many of the characters, major and minor, are memorable works of art, in themselves. Hardingham's persuasive performance makes this audiobook a mesmerizing pleasure. Well done!

Beautiful and Well Read - With Just enough Lovey Dover Stuff
I love authors that give you a bit of Austin style chaste romance that adds to the story. This was a great adventure filled with wonderful characters but few surprises. Pick it for a sweet relaxing listen...
