About this listen

Bridei is a young nobleman, a fosterling of one of the most powerful druids in the land, Broichan. All of Bridei's earliest memories are of this dark and mysterious man he trusts above all others. Broichan seems to have plans for Bridei, seems to be training him for a special purpose the older man will not divulge.

One bitter Midwinter's Eve, everything changes when Bridei finds a child on their doorstep - a child abandoned by the Fair Folk.

It is the height of ill fortune to have truck with the Fair Folk, and all in the area counsel the babe's death. But Bridei sees an old and precious magic at work and, heedless of the danger, fights to save the child. Broichan is wary but relents, for Bridei must grow to be his own man and make his own decisions.

As Bridei comes to manhood, he watches the shy girl Tuala blossom into a beautiful woman, and feels things he didn't know were possible.

Broichan sees the same process and feels only danger, for Tuala could be a key part in Bridei's future...or could spell his doom.

Series: Bride Trilogy

I have bought the whole of the Bride Trilogy now, all of which are excellently written, & loosely based on historical accuracy. The first, is most certainly my favourite of the series, yet all are enthralling, enchanting & full of mystery and intrigue.
a truly unique and creative interpretation of our druidic and pagan hereditary. Further into the trilogy, touching upon the amalgamation of both Pagan, & Christian ideology, at the crucial point of change from the old, into the new.
I would highly recommend this series if myth, magic, love & hate, life & death, & beliefs of the past and present is something that would be able to grab your attention and hold you transfixed. Well worth a listen!

enthralling

I found this book enthralling - the story is fast flowing, the characters believable, I became immersed in the setting. The narrator does a great job, I had no trouble listening to him. My only complaint is that the other books in the series are not available on audible!

The best series Juliet Marillier has written

I have loved this series for many years and hesitated to get the audio version on case it disappointed.
I was very pleased to find that it did not.

Great Listen

Really enjoyed listening to this book and have downloaded the next in the Series. The storylines are twisted enough to keep you guessing as to what is going to happen and the Narrator is amazing in his story telling. Would recommend to lovers of fantasy romance.

Another lovely tale from Marillier

I really enjoyed this, a good plot and it has some very touching moments. The characters are, in some ways, deeper and better developed than in her Sevenwaters series, excellent as these are.

The narration is fine except early on I found it too fast and so turned it down to 0.9x. What a great feature!

Great writer

I didn’t think the Sevenwaters series could be matched for amazing storyline, but as before, the imagination and narrator are spellbinding
