Summary

If you like R F Kuang, David Gemmell, Simon Scarrow, and John Gwynne, you will love this epic adventure set in the ancient world, packed with battles, magic, and a war across time.

530 BC. The Persian Emperor Cyrus the Great is at war with Queen Tomyris of the Massagetae on the Scythian steppe. On either side of that epic conflict, are immortal forces locked in a battle between good and evil which stretches back to the dawn of time.

Xantho, slave to a Persian Satrap...bereft at the death of his wife and ashamed of his status...caught in the eye of a war between gods and magic wielding warriors.

The mysterious warrior Naram-Sin and Siduri, a powerful mage, guide Xantho through a rampaging war that will take him from the wild Scythian steppe, through time to the campaigns of Alexander the Great and Ancient Greece. They must stop the ruthlessly cruel and powerful Gula’an, servant of the underworld, before humanity is plunged into an eternity of darkness and suffering.

Xantho must navigate a war between immortals, survive brutal attacks, and find his place in the magically powerful world of mages and warriors in this fast paced adventure with unforgettable characters.

A brand-new Historical Fantasy series, and packed with myth, magic, and war, The Curse of Naram-Sin begins an epic new fantasy saga from best-selling author Peter Gibbons.

An interesting introduction of the supernatural in

Disappointed, I much prefer when Peter keeps to history, there is so much more intrigue in history without the need to inject magical characters to carry the tale. I am not a fan. I love Peter Gibbons Dark age novels, with the fictitious character achieving great deeds of heroism, you can imagine you are there living with the other characters partaking in their conversations.

I found the narrator was tedious, and when the Irish accent came along for one of the main characters who wasn't supposed to be Irish really spoilt the listening for me.

I know there are many who will love the introduction of Magic in this story, but for me it spoilt was is in its self a great story of Alexander the Great.

Fantasy mixed with historical fiction

I generally read historical fiction, but do look for fantasy that’s linked with history. This book did exactly that and I’m looking forward to read the next in the series
