Summary

YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE....

Kate Irving arrives at her grandfather’s cottage at Frenchman’s Creek in the dead of night with her young son, a small suitcase and little else. Its scattered community of fishermen, farmers, artists and jetsetters barely bat an eyelid, because theirs is a rarefied world, tucked beneath the lush forest that lines the banks of the Helford Estuary, deep in the heart of Cornwall, where life is slow and people generally mind their own business. Unless, of course, your grandfather happens to be a pillar of the local community....

Kate’s left the past behind and guards her privacy and her son fiercely. She’s wary of accepting the friendship her new neighbours offer, but their kindness is too great to refuse and she begins to feel she has found her place in the world. That is, until tragedy strikes, and her new friends look to her for the answers....

Kate soon learns that the past always catches up with you, in the end—the question is, will she be able to face it, when it does?

Suspense is peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced mystery, set amidst the spectacular Cornish landscape.

A good listen

I really enjoyed this book, previously I had only listened to dci ryan books by this author, so this was a little different. a nice blend of romance and mystery.
It wasnt heavy going, moved at a good pace and characters were interesting. I enjoyed the narrator too.

Great story with some plot twists

Enjoyed the story but found the narration difficult. Narrator was great with the dialogue and the accents but not so great with the narrative text. I found that she read each sentence like it was the end of paragraph. The inflection and pause between each sentence is what you would expect at the end of a statement or paragraph rather than a sentence which meant it didn't flow as well as it should have done.

Enjoyable but lacking "umph"

The story itself wasn't quite what I was hoping for from LJRoss. DCI crime thrillers have been amazing, but sadly this storyline I felt wasn't quite up to the same standard. Good holiday read/listen.

I had to give up!

The story wasn't bad at all, unfortunately the narration was absolutely shocking!
I tried to persevere, but it was just too bad.

Weak story from a great author

Very disappointed, weak, predictable story. Good narration helped me get to the end. In print I would have given up
