About this listen

A confounding case in the present. A precipitous puzzle from the past...

Inspector David Graham knows all about history. After moving to the island of Jersey to recover from a tragic loss, he has done his best to leave painful memories behind. But sometimes it is not so easy to forget...

When Mia, a promising young actress, turns up dead beneath the jagged cliffs known as Sampson’s Leap, suicide seems the obvious answer. But after Inspector Graham interviews the victim’s conniving clan of associates, he’s not so sure.

Mia's mysterious death also shines a light on a far older case... The murder of three women, nearly two centuries ago. New evidence suggests that investigative rigour may not have been applied.

Can the dogged inspector uncover the truth of Mia’s fate? Can a historical injustice be laid to rest? And can Graham finally reveal the secrets hiding in his own heart to the woman who knows him best...?

Mystery fans will love The Case of Sampson’s Leap. This deliciously clever whodunnit is filled with fiendish puzzles, tantalising twists, and quirky characters you'll grow to love. This is the eighth book in this best-selling traditional British detective mystery series with a modern twist.

ANOTHER EXCELLENT BOOK

I’ve enjoyed every one of the Inspector David Graham books and this didn’t disappoint.
In fact I felt it one of the very best . I got drawn straight into the tragedy of the girls death
and the historic back story of the circumstances.
Can’t say much more of what I enjoyed without spoiling it for others , but I will recommend it !

Another enjoyable mystery set on Jersey

Inspector David Graham and his little team face another mystery when a young woman in period costume is found dead at the base of a cliff known as Sampson's Leap, she is part of a group from University who are filming a re-enactment of the events that led to the naming of the cliff. There are plenty of suspects, including a couple of Australian surfers and the rest of the group, some of whom are very highly strung and artistic.
I like that not only are the suspects diverse, but so is Graham's team, each is a definite individual with their own quirks and talents and we gradually hear more about their private lives and also that of Graham himself, who finds it within himself to tell his girlfriend about his rather tragic past.
The ending of this story sees the murder solved but then there is also a revelation about the mystery behind Sampson's Leap.
This is a very enjoyable listen which is narrated in a very professional way by Matt Jamie.

currant & historic case

I loved the way the two cases weaved in and out of each other. It good that some the regular characters are developing. There was lots of little twits and turns in this case and was brilliantly narrated with each character an individual. can't wait for the next book.

It's not a leap to say you will enjoy this book.

I loved this book. There was so much happening on the small island of Jersey that I was captivated until the very end. Solving a murder for Inspector David Graham and his team is not enough, they also have to rewrite history and what a way to do it. I love this series and have no problem picturing the scenes and jumping right into the mystery alongside the delightful characters. The mix of old and new techniques to solve the cases, such as crowd sourcing and reading old diaries worked well together to get the job done, in an interesting way. I like the epilogue at the end of the story where the author wraps everything up and tells you what happens to the characters, it's a fun way to finish. The mystery was good with plenty of suspects and despite having a good guess who the killer was the author still had a few tricks and surprises up her sleeve. I can't wait for the next case.
The tells of Sampson's leap is legendary on the small island of Jersey and with the anniversary of that fateful day a group of college students decide to make a film about it. Unfortunately it seems one takes it to far and ends up dead at the bottom of the same cliff. Was she pushed or did she jump? And if she did jump, why is she still wearing the uncomfortable period costume? Inspector David Graham and his team will have to answer those questions and others if they hope to get to the bottom of the death.
I like the narrator. He is a good choice for the series and is excellent at giving each character a voice.
