Summary

Accident? Dangerous game gone wrong? Or murder? DI Blackwell faces her toughest case yet.

When the body of a young woman is discovered in a shipping container in Bristol, the police suspect she was an illegal immigrant whose death was a tragic accident. But their theory is shot down by two pieces of evidence: the container was due to ship out, not in; and, even more sinister, a video camera with a live feed was filming her from a hidden compartment.

Someone watched her die. Slowly.

DI Louise Blackwell is ten weeks pregnant, a fact she has largely kept to herself, and between bouts of morning sickness she now has a murder to investigate. While the docks offer few other clues, the discovery of more live feeds convinces Blackwell that there are other trapped women…and that some of them are still alive.

As she scours historic missing-persons cases looking for a pattern to the abductions, Blackwell finds herself in a race against time to uncover the voyeuristic killer’s motive and stop any more women becoming caught in the cruel and deadly game. But with every step being closely monitored, can she outwit a murderer whose method means staying hidden?

Critic reviews

“An original and deftly crafted police procedural murder mystery…superbly narrated by storytelling talents of Danielle Cohen. The result is a vivid and inherently compelling 'theatre of the mind' experience for fans of contemporary 'whodunnit' murder mysteries.” Midwest Book Review

Why is it called The Bridge?

I did not really enjoy this one as much as previous books, the whole premise of the book was just weird and, much as I hate to say it, unbelievable. The drama over the pregnancy was a pointless distraction and Louise's constant pondering on her future was annoying. And seriously, WHY is it called The Bridge? There's no bridges involved, at all, except maybe they drove over one at some point, I considered the possibility that it was link to some older book, but NO, there's no link that I can see so I really, REALLY want to know why it's called The Bridge.

Not one I'll be relistening to.

Another great listen

Louise gets involved in yet another weird case, one that keeps you listening without a break. Please to Louise’s live moving on and what a terrifying core crime!

Not great at all! Certainly not worth a credit!!

Story was quite unbelievable, not to mention a bit weird.
Have listened/read all Mat Brolly’s books, and I’ve always enjoyed them, but this is completely different and the least enjoyable of all of them. The pregnancy feels pointless to the storyline, and why the baby issues? As a parent of a disabled child/adult, I felt it was handled insensitively and saying things like as long as it’s healthy, quite upset me! Because whether your child is healthy or not, they’re still your child! This is an awful saying that parents have to deal with, and it was written in a flippant way. I shan’t we listening to anymore of Mat Brollys books, and not just because of that.

The narrator is truly AWFULL! Her lack of Appropreate emotion in her reading, grates on my nerves. And all the character voices are patronising and condescending. Plus I can barely tell which character was talking. What has happened to the authors usually excellent stories?
I’m sad I’ll no longer be a Mat Brolly fan, but he’s lost me this this one I’m afraid.

Ridiculous and unbelievable

I need to stop reading/ listening to these type of books. The female leads are always so annoyingly insipid outside of their work roles. Makes you wonder how they ever got to be promoted to DCI.
The constant reference to her pregnancy was unnecessary. We get it ! She’s pregnant, it doesn’t have to be mentioned every few minutes.
The plot was just daft, enough said about that.
Narration was just “meh”.

Disappointing

I really did not enjoy this book at all.
The constant reference to Louise pregnancy was very annoying, and had too much air time, and the subject matter was totally weird and unbelievable. And why was it called The Bridge??? Having enjoyed all the other books, I’d think twice about reading anymore.

I’m certain this was AI and not a real narration

I gave up on this. I’m certain the narration was AI and not authentically read. I got quite a bit through but once I’d noticed it really grated on me.
