We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

In the twentieth century Earth sent probes, transmissions and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy.

Summary
From outlaw, to bounty hunter, to vigilante: Revenge is just the beginning.
Cade Korbin became a bounty hunter because he knew what it was like to be hunted. What he didn’t know was who he’d end up hunting. When it suited the Coalition, Cade was a Paladin, a member of their elite special forces. He did their dirty work and cleaned up their messes. Until his dark ops went public, and Cade was drummed out of the service with a dishonorable discharge. As if he’d ever been doing anything but following orders.
Forced to the fringes of society by his service record, Cade broke the law just to survive. Then the Enforcers caught him, and he served his time. Sick of the hypocrisy in the supposedly Utopian Coalition, he crossed over to the other side and made a life among his former enemies in the Free Systems Alliance. Now, he hunts the galaxy’s worst lowlifes, for a fee, and the only orders he takes are his own.
But when his past catches up with him, Cade is forced to fight for more than just credits...this time, he’s in it for revenge.

Surprisingly good
I took a chance on this and was pleasantly surprised. The story initially seemed like it'd be formulaic. Cade Korbin is a bounty hunter with a checkered past working shady gigs to make a living. It starts out by delving into his history with a flash back that seems heavy handed. You have a better understanding of his motivations and abilities, true, but it lays it on kinda thick. This is where I thought the story would become unimaginative, but instead it turns into an interesting adventure with plenty of mystery and intrigue. A nice surprise and very enjoyable to listen to with added depth and dimension to the characters as well as excellent world building.
Luke Daniels does a great job on narration. Cade Korbin's real voice is a Texas drawl, but his high tech disguise apparatus changes his voice along with his face several times through the story. It was a bit disorienting initially, listening to him interface with other characters and also hear his analysis of the situation, but the narration's crisp, so everything's distinct with no confusion. I should add that all the characters are vivid and three dimensional, making for an entertaining listen.
I was left satisfied at The Bounty Hunter's close and looking forward to the rest of the books in the series. Alien Artifacts is due out at the end of June. My credit's already lined up for its release.

Fantastic start to a new series
The Bounty Hunter, book 1 in the Cade Korbin Chronicles, is one heck of a fast paced, action packed, intelligent adventure. I loved the hero, Cade Krobin. He's a complex character who due to something that happen in his past (no spoilers!) adopts a personal code of ethics that doesn't always work in his line of work. The story is excellent, with a ton of twists and turns you won't see coming. At its core I think this first book is a story of revenge, though of course it's not quite that simple, and the author does a fantastic job of leaving plenty of open loops that I have to believe he'll be circling back to in future volumes. Not sure if was intentional or not, but the universe in this book has sort of a Firefly-ish feel to it. And by that I mean it has a sort of western feel, with Cade being sort of a lone gunman outsider type. I definitely look forward to seeing where the adventure goes from here. The book is narrated by Luke Daniels, one of my favorite narrators, and as always he delivers a spectacular performance. I also love how he included a few out takes after the book was finished. This is only the second time I've heard heard of a narrator doing this, and I hope it's a trend that continues. It's so much fun to hear some of the screw ups that happen during the recording process,

Can’t wait for the next story!
First, I love Luke Daniels! He’s one of the best sci fi narrators. He really has a chance to shine with the main character as there is a fun gimmick that allows for various voices from the main character. Second, I really liked the story and world building. There is so much opportunity for future stories in this universe. I especially like the fact it’s bounty hunter focused and it’s such a great way to kick it off. I don’t expect to stay that way forever, but for now it’s super entertaining and different than anything I’ve read up to this point. There are some slow parts in the book I would like to see sped up, but for the most part an all around great book. I look forward to the next entry!

The Bounty Hunter
Luke Daniels does an amazing job of bringing Cade Korbin to life in the first book of the bounty hunter series by Jasper T. Scott. When you read a book you get an idea in your head of how the characters should sound. I have to say at first Luke Daniels idea of how Cade should sound didn't fit my idea. However the more I listened to him, more and more his idea of how Cade sounded fit right along with Cades personality. Great job

Engrossing read
I am thoroughly impressed with the author's ability to weave a intricate story that's seeded with deep and well-thought-out characters. The only issue I had was when the narrator switched voices to match the multiple personas of the main protagonist. The voices sounded off, forced almost. When you listen to the story you'll understand what I mean. That being said, that issue is the only fault I can find with this book! Everything else was phenomenal definitely recommend you read it.

Listen to this at 1.2 x speed or so
I found the book interesting but the narration needed to be sped up just a little bit to keep my interest. Overall at a higher speed it was quite enjoyable. The voice actor was talented but the southern drawl of the narration was charming when I was sped up a bit.

A fine start to a new adventure
At first I was a bit put off by the narrator’s voice for Corbin. If you have that initial reaction too just bear with it. It soon falls into place and your in for a treat with this book and the series. Can’t wait for the next book!
