About this listen
Horror is what Dan Law enjoys. He loves to read horror novels as a way to escape from his teaching job, from his loneliness, from the everyday dullness of life in Silver Lake. That’s what Dan lives for. When a new bookstore opens in town, every visitor receives a free book of their own. A book that tells their own personal story...a story they have to follow to the brutal end. As Silver Lake’s population descends into violent savagery, Dan finds he is no longer living for horror novels - he’s living inside one.

If you've read Needful Things......
picked this title from the Plus catalogue. from the first 10 minutes, and throughout, all I could think of was "this is a lot like Needful Things". The plot is okay, and rather predictable. The sheer absence of any authority in the last two thirds of the novel, given the timescales and events, it what makes the story tip to the "yeah, right" side of things.
Jeff Harding is a well-known narrator, with his own style.

Keeps you interested. Gory though be warned!
Really enjoyed the narration, intriguing little tale and kept me curious. It’s like it was written just for me, a story just for me!

Nice horror…
… story with good performance from the narrator. Not a slow burner, but a gripping one, right from the start. It leaved an open ending to me, but such is the nature of evil. :)

Good story
I enjoyed the book overall, the story kept me engaged and I wanted to know what happened next.
The last 1/3 of the book felt rushed though and the ending was disappointing.
That said, overall I very much enjoyed this title

Gruesome
This was probably the most ridiculous book I’ve ever read/listened to, but I did enjoy it. It was very descriptive on all the hideous acts of murder and violence and at times I actually laughed out loud!

a specific type of taste
Like psychological small-town horror, look no further! Especially if you like a sprinkling of gruesome descriptions.

Weird and Wonderful
A clever concept for some gory, chaotic dystopia in an American town, and I found the storyline compelling, the writing good, and great to hear the lovely voice of Jeff Harding again.
I enjoy these 'evil spirit' type happenings, as I am an advocate of C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters. And I like to see how various secular ideas match some Scriptural instances.

okay to kill some time if a little predictable
seemed like a thinly veiled rip off of Stephen King's Needful Things. was enjoyable enough, but couldn't help drawing the comparison.

Well performed but quite similar to needful things
The story could easily be looked at as a continuation of Mr Gaunt’s evil deeds from needful things but the story on its own is fun and dark.

King copycat.
At first i thought it was going to be a good thrill. But there was too much stolen from Kings needful things, to be original.
