Summary

A professor’s death lures the reclusive detective and his sidekick to a bucolic crime scene: “Goldsborough does a masterly job with the Wolfe legacy.” (Booklist)

An academic so conservative he thought Ronald Reagan was a pinko, Hale Markham rules Prescott University like an intellectual tyrant - until the morning he’s found dead at the bottom of one of Prescott’s famously beautiful ravines. Every liberal on campus hated the crotchety old crank, but which one is responsible for giving Markham his final push to the right?

The case so intrigues the incomparable, reclusive master detective Nero Wolfe that he takes the unusual step of leaving the confines of his home. With man of action Archie Goodwin at his side, Wolfe examines jealous professors, a fanatical assistant, and a university president with an ego that - like the school itself - will not stop growing. Though they’re far from the city, Wolfe and Goodwin will find that no back alley is as dangerous as the shadowy corridors of the Ivy League.

Charmless fat man story

I had often wondered a out Nero Wolfe stories. I wonder no more. He is charmless, arrogant, inconsiderate, lazy and rude. The only mystery is why no bulletin off.

Simple Yet Interesting

I started this series at the beginning: “Murder In E Minor”, I have not previously listened/read any Nero Wolfe novels previously. I enjoyed the first book and equally this one, although they are both very, very different.

I enjoy the portrayal of not only Nero Wolfe, but also his sidekick/assistant Archie Goodwin. In this tale, Archie takes the lead until his boss has to bail him out! This is very amusing and so is another side to Mr Wolfe, although it’s not as different as you may think.

The characters, if portrayed correctly, are academics who think very highly of themselves, so may be a match for Mr Wolfe, but you can guess who comes out on top.

A pleasant read with excellent narration as usual by L. J. Ganser.

Very Nero.

I was very pleased with this, both Wolfe and Archie have a strong flavour of the original Rex Stout maverick characters, and the story is very entertaining. I will be listening to more of Robert Goldsborough's neroations.

Enjoyed

Third book I’ve listened to and I’m getting addicted!
I like the way they are narrated and the way Goodwin is supposedly writing the book and his observyof Nero and others makes me laugh.
