Summary

The Beach Hut follows the stories of the families who come to Everdene each year, people who fall in – or out – of love, remembering their pasts, or trying to forget them…There’s Jane Milton, left only debts by her husband, and forced to sell the beloved beach hut that holds so many happy memories; Sarah; for whom fidelity has lost its appeal; and Harry, suffering from the anguish of first love when he falls for Florence – who has grown up to be far more alluring than she ever used to be.

A lovely light & yet complex storyline

This book was like a well made tartan.Use of characters with whom you can sympathise , understand and recognise the needs and emotions. A web of love triangles, each individual story interwoven in time and character. It kept me listening most of the day and it finished in the early hrs. Feel quite lost now not to be involved with the next generation of Beach Hut owners. S Smith

A romantic story with some unexpected twists

Where does The Beach Hut rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Some breathtaking descriptions of the coastline, beautiful images are conjured by the narrative and a story that has many twists and turns along the way.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Beach Hut?

The discovery of why the house was of such importance to the new owner and what it had signified.

Have you listened to any of Julia Franklin’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Excellent narration as ever, with very distinct characterisations

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some very sad moments in the book, but others that made you truly smile with pleasure.

Any additional comments?

A great holiday read.

Lovers of English beach huts

cannot help but be drawn to this title and you will find Veronica Henry as always adeptly weaves a host of individual storylines together. I did find this bunch of characters a little more cliched than usual and some of the outcomes particularly unlikely - however there is also a number of quite poignant threads left in midair which stay in the mind. It's a well read pleasant listen.

Slow Burner But Worthwhile!!

This is another perfect audiobook for holiday listening by Veronica Henry, and is as good as "The Long Weekend" (which I previously listened to), albeit somewhat different in its approach.

Set in the coastal town of Everdene, we are introduced to a series of characters that all in some way have a connection with one of the many beach huts - some owners and some hiring them for a short stay. The main focus is on the Milton family and Jane Milton, and explores their relationships which normally ends up leading to a fair amount of tense situations. There are also many other secondary characters and stories that appear to be self-contained initially, but eventually intertwine with other characters and their stories. This is performed seamlessly by the author.

For me, "The Beach Hut" was a slow burner of a story, that got better and more interesting the more I listened. Yet again, Henry's storytelling ability and imagery is first rate. She is excellent at engaging the reader/listener, and I found this a both easy and enjoyable listen.

Julia Franklin's narration was pleasant and apt throughout. Recommended!

Wonderful story.

This is a clever story telling of many different families and their life in their beach hut. As usual Julia Franklin does a lovely job of reading. A lovely introduction lead in and you are captured into wanting to listen to what will happen next. A very happy and cheerful story, no fighting!! I recommend this book with no reservations.

Mills and boon on sea

Far too long, too many characters. Started off fine... Then just got boring, waste of a credit.

Good easy listening

Good book to listen to.
The narrator doesn't have a wide range of voices but is still easy to listen to.

Would recommend a listen.

I absolutely loved this book, different stories, all complete, all completely different yet coming together as an overall story. Roll on the next Veronica Henry.
