Interesting and clear instructions

I found this book gives clear instructions and advice about how to develop your focus and awareness capabilities although it seems to be confined to a Buddhist approach and conceptual framework.
I found the information very interesting as I am interested in the nature of awareness and perception. However, I found that it wasn’t very clear on the WHY of the whole pathway of training it describes, particularly as it sounds like it is likely to require years of practice of 10+ hours per day, and even then it sounds like it is very unlikely to achieve the described goal in terms of level of focus and awareness. What is the purpose of putting all that time and effort into this? What are the benefits that make it all worthwhile?

Worth a listen, but some parts maybe unattainable

It was an enjoyable listen, which I would recommend to others, but a large part of the last half of the book I'm not sure are attainable without a high degree of dedication.

The author repeatedly stresses in that portion that the techniques are only achievable with seclusion and full time practice for years.

Good, clear narration of a fascinating and well disseminated subject. I shall be listening to this over and over. Essential reading for those on the Buddhist path of discovery.

Good book; lacks a little

This book was very good, though it lacks a little with regard to its idealism. It also doesn't show clearly how to achieve all of the stages of Samatha, as it just says that most people won't achieve it. I know it's a little idealistic to expect everyone to be able to achieve this state of mind, but it'd be better to have more actionable steps for laymen (like me) to achieve some degree of mental clarity. Other than that, I thought the book was very clear and provided decent meditation instructions. I like the subject matter, as well.

Treat your ADHD and be a focused person

Outstanding guide for practicing focusing your mind. At the very end, there was some mystical content that is left over from tradition (so 4 stars) , but most of the book is secular with its feet on the ground. My practice of these techniques seems directly correlated with my own improved focus, clarity, mood, resilience, creativity, compassion (maybe), joy, and professional performance as an IT consultant (I make more money). I believe that Shimanta practice cured my lifelong depression. After 30 years of depression; starting in my teens, I haven’t been seriously depressed for 7 years. I intend to regularly re-read this book.

Best book I've read on meditation

Meditation explained in a progressive manner.
Great clarification of the finer points of meditation. Also the narrator is one of the best I've heard. Highly recommended

Magnificent

Useful, clear and straight to the point. Summarizes meditation in simple steps. Very thorough though but without dragging or dwelling on the ideas.

Great guide for the meditation practitioner

This is the best book I’ve read explaining the path to reach Samatha. It’s full of wisdom and clarity. I fully recommend it to all meditators, beginners and seasoned alike.

3% good stuff 97% of waste of time

Narrator will make you go sleepy.

Will not tell you how to achieve focused attention.

Give some very little insight about craving, how lucid dreaming can give you more awareness and control over your awaken life - by realising everything you think is also a dream an illusion a mental construct.

Give a distinction between excited mind which need a relaxation vs a lazy mind which need attention.

You need to really chew for yourself what is the distinction between the stages.

Gives 5 hindrances of enlightenment from Buddhism but you need to explore them in the Buddhism text.

Might leave you crumbles to where to find the true source of knowledge.

Overall author talks a lot without saying anything, this was not a fun read.

Relax and Focus.

It helped my fine tune and understand some complications I had in my self taught practice. I don't have any gurus out in the hills of Billy so I need wisdom that is relatable. This is it.
