About this listen

Being a great public speaker can put you on the pathway to success, whether you're looking to teach, inform, persuade, or defend an idea. Yet many of us live in fear of public speaking. We experience stage fright or believe that speeches are best left to those with more intuitive talent. But nothing could be further from the truth.

As you'll learn in these 12 invaluable lectures, all it takes is confidence, practice, and the knowledge of techniques and strategies used by history's greatest public speakers, from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, Jr.

This insider's look at public speaking shows you three key components to help you succeed in any situation:

  • How to prepare for public speaking: Learn from Patrick Henry and others how to overcome stage fright, control your voice, use humor, and personalize your delivery.
  • How to craft a great speech: Learn how to build captivating speeches from people such as Susan B. Anthony and how to use stories, examples, logic, and impressive visual images.
  • How to handle your audience: Learn from Gandhi and others how to focus on your audience, invite them to share your vision, and inspire them to change.

Whether you want to finally become the confident public speaker you've always wanted to be or are just looking for fresh advice on how to strengthen your skills, this inspiring course is packed with practical advice to help you learn one of the most important skills in your personal and professional life.

Useful for any public speaker

I've been doing public speaking for years and it's not common to come across too many good resources. However, this course, as with many other of The Great Courses series is a valuable resource and reference for public speakers both new and experienced.

An essential part of the Speaker’s Toolkit

A very helpful manual to which I will be referring to, covering many important points. Thank you John Hale.

It would have added variety and more interest to the presentation, for the speeches to have been done by other voices, in addition to that of the narrator, but still, it was a very informative listen.

Too Old School. First chapters great though

The start of the book is amazing.
But for me personally---- possibly not for everyone else.
The very old school language is a difficult barrier to overcome. Some good key examples of works

Inspirational for you who give speeches

Provides vivid examples andclear rules for good speeches. The rest is up to using it. With this I mean that the examples and rules are good indeed, but there is still much work to translate your own subject and objective in rhe form of a good speech.

Just found it a bit dull

Was really excited to listen to this but the irony is I found the book quite dull. Quite often found myself thinking get on with it and actually play the speeches.

Too Much Religion and Nothing usefull

A religious person should never have the right to talk about history if he believes in God
I meet far too many religious people who still don't believe in Dinosaurs

There are too many sermons in these greatest speeches on earth, apart from Churchill, Lincoln and Alexander the Greate nothing of worth, avoid this book as you will get no useful information.
