Summary

Half of all meetings are a waste of time. Here’s how to make sure your meetings aren’t!

According to a Clarizen/Harris Poll survey, the average American worker spends four and a half hours every week in general status meetings.

And that’s not counting other meetings you can get called for at various times of the day.

But just 11 percent of survey respondents said all of their meetings were productive. And with 67 percent of workers saying meetings are keeping them from doing their job, why do companies still keep having them?

The thing is, meetings are essential in any organization.

Collaboration, discussion, and interaction are the lifeblood of a company’s progress and innovation.

Unfortunately, meetings can hamper these collaborations when they’re poorly planned, badly run, and haphazardly organized.

With the guidance and advice of meeting management expert J.W. Dionne, you’ll find out exactly what you have to do.

In The Art of Meeting Management, you will discover:

  • How to have engaging, productive, and worthwhile meetings with the six Ps of effective meetings.
  • Five meetings that could have been an email–these situations don’t actually require a meeting.
  • How to make meetings more inclusive, and get even the quietest and most introverted attendees to speak up.
  • Useful skills you need to develop that will help you facilitate meetings so they run smoothly.
  • The powerful psychological tool to apply in your meetings that will improve follow-through and promote compliance.
  • Why it’s better to have two short meetings than a long one.
  • Why you should encourage conflict during your meetings–and how to prevent it from getting out of hand.
  • Fun ideas for virtual meeting openers that will get your attendees engaged and ready to go.
  • And much more!

Meetings will never become obsolete.

They may take different forms and use different platforms, but the need to get together and collaborate will always be there.

Great Book For The Corporate World

I got this book as I have just stepped into the world of management myself after working in an office most of my adult life. For those that think they know it all already jump straight to chapter as there are some neat tricks in there. It also touches on the basics which I am sure we all need to go back to at some time. This chapter will help you with time management and have a more productive meeting with truly good outcomes/. I also quite liked chapter seven. Since the pandemic we all have to have online meetings. Again it's full of great information to help you get the most out of your meeting. What is good about this chapter is it spells out the pros of online meetings but also the negatives (i.e. less body language, technology etc.). If you are on a corporate journey like me then gets this book I am sure you will find it useful

Have Full Control of Your Meeting!

This audiobook has provided all the guides and techniques to conduct a productive meeting. I already knew some of the information, but it also offered great advice on having a more vibrant and inclusive forum, which will transition into greater productivity. This audiobook has also assisted me with ways to involve introverts rather than everyone sitting and looking at the presenter.

Very helpful to me

This book is a must-read book for anyone who wants to improve the productivity and effectiveness of their meetings. The author provides practical advice on how to plan and run engaging, productive, and inclusive meetings. The book starts by highlighting the problem of unproductive meetings and how they waste time and impact job performance. The author then presents the six Ps of effective meetings, which provide a framework for planning and executing successful meetings. In addition, the author provides guidance on identifying which meetings require face-to-face interaction and which ones could be replaced by emails or other communication methods.

Open My Mind

This book made me humble as a manager. Its not good enough to pay them well but to say "how much you appreciate them". I chose this book because I want to be a better manager and grow it to become the "Best" manager.

Extremely helpful

Bought copies of this book for everyone in my office who works with outside creatives (and inside ones, too). Explains a lot of the miscommunication and frustration that happens when business people talk to creatives.
