Summary
Half of all meetings are a waste of time. Here’s how to make sure your meetings aren’t!
According to a Clarizen/Harris Poll survey, the average American worker spends four and a half hours every week in general status meetings.
And that’s not counting other meetings you can get called for at various times of the day.
But just 11 percent of survey respondents said all of their meetings were productive. And with 67 percent of workers saying meetings are keeping them from doing their job, why do companies still keep having them?
The thing is, meetings are essential in any organization.
Collaboration, discussion, and interaction are the lifeblood of a company’s progress and innovation.
Unfortunately, meetings can hamper these collaborations when they’re poorly planned, badly run, and haphazardly organized.
With the guidance and advice of meeting management expert J.W. Dionne, you’ll find out exactly what you have to do.
In The Art of Meeting Management, you will discover:
- How to have engaging, productive, and worthwhile meetings with the six Ps of effective meetings.
- Five meetings that could have been an email–these situations don’t actually require a meeting.
- How to make meetings more inclusive, and get even the quietest and most introverted attendees to speak up.
- Useful skills you need to develop that will help you facilitate meetings so they run smoothly.
- The powerful psychological tool to apply in your meetings that will improve follow-through and promote compliance.
- Why it’s better to have two short meetings than a long one.
- Why you should encourage conflict during your meetings–and how to prevent it from getting out of hand.
- Fun ideas for virtual meeting openers that will get your attendees engaged and ready to go.
- And much more!
Meetings will never become obsolete.
They may take different forms and use different platforms, but the need to get together and collaborate will always be there.

The author provides practical advice on how to plan and run engaging, productive, and inclusive meetings. The book starts by highlighting the problem of unproductive meetings and how they waste time and impact job performance. The author then presents the six Ps of effective meetings, which provide a framework for planning and executing successful meetings. In addition, the author provides guidance on identifying which meetings require face-to-face interaction and which ones could be replaced by emails or other communication methods.

The best meeting audiobook!
If you have trouble holding meetings or participating in meetings, be it online or in person, you need to listen to this audiobook. Even if you don't have meetings often, you can still get a lot from this book and the content provided. I love to interact in meetings but prefer not to spend too long in meetings so I can get more work done. Great book!

I wish I had this book when I started consulting 7 years ago. Cringed so hard when I saw stuff really similar to my PowerPoint decks featured in the “before” section, but I’m glad I now know how to get better. Very effectively laid out book with clear and effective visuals. You need this book!!

My life is meetings!!
It is amazing to me how many people do not understand how to run or participate in successful meetings. I have been in leadership for over 12 years and it is amazing how little meeting etiquette and meeting performance has changed. I have noticed a significant shift when my company started to work from home. It's like more meetings just get thrown on the calendar because we're at home and people think we're just available. It's time to take back our time and start to shape how meetings are ran and that includes us as participants. The author does a great job of giving actionable steps to start to shift how meetings are organized, is it worth being a meeting and what is my role as a participant or an organizer. Overall, everyone's time is worth something so it's time to treat it as such. Protect your gold which is your time and be efficient. Great job to this author!

Very helpful
After reading this book, I can boldly say that I now have meaningful meetings.
I ensure that I apply psychological tools in my meetings that have improved follow-through and promoted compliance, tried not to hold unnecessary meetings that will affect working times, and also encouraged conflicts during meetings as long as we arrive at a resolution.
Every manager should get a copy of this book.

The author gives you step-by-steps guide in organizing and planning your meetings. Shows you when it's necessary to have a meeting or just sending out a email is sufficient.
