About this listen

Over seven years, 45 of the world's top investors were given between $25 million and $150 million to invest by fund manager Lee Freeman-Shor. His instructions were simple. There was only one rule. They could invest in only their 10 best ideas to make money.

It seemed like a foolproof plan to make a lot of money. What could possibly go wrong? These were some of the greatest minds at work in the markets today - from top European hedge fund managers to Wall Street legends.

But most of the investors' great ideas actually lost money. Shockingly, a toss of a coin would have been a better method of choosing whether or not to invest in a stock.

Nevertheless, despite being wrong most of the time, many of these investors still ended up making a lot of money.

How could they be wrong most of the time and still be profitable?

The answer lay in their hidden habits of execution, which until now have only been guessed at from the outside world.

This audiobook lays bare those secret habits for the first time, explaining them with real-life data, case studies, and stories taken from Freeman-Shor's unique position of managing these investors on a day-to-day basis.

A riveting listen for investors of every level, this audiobook shows you exactly what to do and what not to do when your big idea is losing or winning - and demonstrates conclusively why the most important thing about investing is always the art of execution.

A superior trading book.

I enjoyed this very much. It's smart, to the point, and explains its thesis well. The basic premis is that being right or wrong on an investment is basically a coin toss, and what actually makes the difference between winners and losers is how the investor reacts to subsequent events. He illustrates this using a number of different archetypes, "Rabbits", "Raiders", "Connoisseurs" etc: and explains how each compounds success or failure. I found the archetypes slightly forced, but they do convey the points he is trying to make in a memorable way.

I also appreciated that the author did not feel the need to pad the book out to be longer than it needs to be, as some trading books do.

I would add one small caveat, that the book is concerned with long equities only, held for the long term. This needs to be born in mind when Freeman-Shor suggests buying more of a falling stock, he is talking about a controlled amount of exposure to something priced below what is considered intrinsic value.

The narrator is fine. Although it was an odd choice to select an American voice for a book written by a British author, and where all the examples are British companies, and priced in sterling.

A clearly stated strategy for investing.

The content is excellent, well set out and easy to understand. Hopefully it is easy to implement too, with a little self discipline. I found the performance a little flat and wondered if the narrator was really interested in the subject.
I have also bought the hard copy book as I think it will be useful to have as a ready desk top reminder of the issues, and because I think the charts and tables referred to will be interesting and helpful.

A very useful audio book let down by a poor PDF

Very interesting and useful. This is a short audio book that I will listen to again.
It is a shame that the PDF has hardly anything in it, so you will have to create your own notes,

Short and Sweet

The concepts are simple and the book is short. Well worth a few hours.

Excellent content, but I had better audio before

Excellent content, pronunciation could be sometimes better... But don't take me wrong here, it's excellent anyway.

Good book shame about narrator

Excellent insightful book, it's a shame the narration wasn't better. Annoying voice with dubious pronunciation skills. But if you can get over that then well worth a listen.

Nice short book getting into the nitty gritty of investing!

I like that the book is succinct and sufficiently detailed enough to explain the different type of investor we all probably have been at some point!

good but lacks consistency

Extolls the virtues of cutting losses and letting winners run while also promoting the contradictory (and usually frowned upon) strategy of averaging down.
