Everyone knows that timing is everything. But we don't know much about timing itself. Our lives are a never-ending stream of 'when' decisions: when to start a business, schedule a class, get serious about a person. Yet we make those decisions based on intuition and guesswork. Timing, it's often assumed, is an art; in When, Pink shows that timing is, in fact, a science. Drawing on a rich trove of research from psychology, biology and economics, Pink reveals how best to live, work and succeed.

We feel jaded and unhappy with the organisations we are part of, whether that's the company we work for or our child's school. And some of us feel deeply alienated from the wider societies in which we live. But life doesn't need to be this way. Motivation thinking holds the key to this promise. Intrinsic uses motivation thinking not just to accurately diagnose these problems but to find solutions.

Editor reviews
The trepidation many have for public speaking is assuaged by Peter Johnson's calm, reassuring tone throughout his reading of Richard Zeoli's insightful book. Like a successful public speaker, Johnson's delivery is effortless, natural, and engaging, making for a pleasant and rewarding listen.
Strong communication skills are integral to success in any field, and Zeoli's work offers simple, practical advice on how to become an effective orator. He doesn't rely on trite pointers such as maintaining eye contact or keeping correct posture; he's more concerned with helping the listener achieve confidence organically by discovering and embracing his or her own voice.
Summary
Whether you are looking to position yourself as an industry expert, extend your sphere of influence, or gain the support and backing of vital constituencies, The 7 Principles of Public Speaking will give you the tools you need to achieve your goal.

Long talk little to gain
This book could have been written over 4-5 pages. Instead it has a useless and lengthy introduction to public speaking, stating the obvious, reciting how public speaking is defined in the dictionary. Really? Cut to the chase, give busy people a pragmatic way to master public speaking. Listening to hours of talking on the subject it’s not very practical and gives little to take away. The narrator’s voice is also rather dispassion about the topic and sounds rather mono-ton, rather risky if you drive as it might put you fast asleep! Half into the book and i haven’t heard of the first principle… one must have the patience to get to the 7th! I don’t recommend it, it takes to long to make the point and reveal the principles. There are much more useful books on public speaking out there.

Don't waste your money and time
What disappointed you about The 7 Principles of Public Speaking?
For many people, the biggest hurdle about public speaking is fear. Overcoming this fear will not make you a good speaker, it merely makes you a slightly tolerable one. This book, sadly, does not go further than trying to negotiate this fear. And in this, the proposed methods are quite childish and probably will not have much real effect. And even though the book boasts about also making great speakers greater, it actually does not even attempt it.
Approx 50% of the book is straightforward bragging - it goes over and over again how great of a presenter the author is and how great is the book.
Thus, for absolute beginners, this book is a very time consuming way of learning ~3 truths - be yourself, prepare, tell stories. That's it. For advanced speakers there's nothing in it.

Nothing new to public speaking same old rules
Would you try another book from Richard Zeoli and/or Peter Johnson?
The author repeats himself 100s of times it seems in this book. It was annoying to listen to at times because of it. I would not suggest it to anyone else.
Would you ever listen to anything by Richard Zeoli again?
No I have not and don't think i could handle anymore of his text in the future.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Peter Johnson?
Maybe the narrator was pleasant and enjoyable, however the text was poorly written.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It offer some advice to those new to public speaking, however all of his stories were kind of bland and it sounded like he was trying to impress you with all the secret big people. He never disclose the names because these people were simply too big.

Irony at its finest
I struggled to get through this book. There may have been valuable information but it was delivered in such a dull dry way that I found it hard to stay focused. Ironic since the author talked about captivating and engaging your audience. It's almost like the book was presented in a "what not to do in public speaking " way.

Solid instruction
As someone who has a real problem with public speaking, I found myself thrust into that arena more and more. I decided for the advancement of my business, I’d better just learn to get better at it, even though I know I’ll never be great at it. This book - and I’ve listened to several - helped with my confidence more than any other. Concise and not intimidating.
