About this listen
Public speaking can be terrifying. For David Nihill, the idea of standing in front of an audience was scarier than cliff jumping into a thorny pit of spiders and mothers-in-law. Without a parachute or advanced weaponry. Something had to change.
In what doesn't sound like the best plan ever, David decided to overcome his fears by pretending to be a comedian called "Irish Dave" for one full year, crashing as many comedy clubs, festivals, and shows as possible. One part of the plan was at least logical: He was already Irish and already called Dave. In one year David went from being deathly afraid of public speaking to hosting a business conference, regularly performing stand-up comedy, and winning storytelling competitions in front of packed houses. He did it by learning from some of the best public speakers in the world: stand-up comedians.
Do You Talk Funny? shows how the key principles of stand-up comedy can be applied to your speaking engagements and presentations to make you funnier, more interesting, and better looking (or at least two of the three). Whether you are preparing for a business presentation, giving a wedding toast, defending your thesis, raising money from investors, or simply want to take on something you're afraid of, this book will take you from sweaty to stage-ready. Ten percent of the author's proceeds from this book will go to Arash Bayatmakou via Help Hope Live until he is fully back on his feet and thereafter to one of the many facing the same challenges after suffering severe spinal cord injuries.

An honest story
An engaging read, not sure how well it will translate to business but interesting nonetheless

Helpful and enjoyable
What a great book. I've had a few on speaking and presentations, this is the best one. I like the fact it's ever so slightly aimed at business speakers, not just for budding stand ups. Great job!

Fabulous
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is really interesting and entertaining to listen to. I've learned a lot from it. Plus, it's nice that the author read it himself.
What other book might you compare Do You Talk Funny? to, and why?
I can't think of any other books which are directly comparable.
Which character – as performed by David Nihill – was your favourite?
David is a remarkably good imitation of himself.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I smiled a lot, although I nodded much more.
Any additional comments?
This is just a great book

Great book, me like
You would not be disappointed. Great and generous tips from David despite the fact that we (the listeners) have not provided any service to him. Maybe just buying the book qualifies… 😊

Excellent book
Had to prepare for a presentation and went looking for something to assist me with public speaking.
I was familiar with the author’s work from YouTube so decided to give it a go.
Surprisingly easy listen with various factors broken down across the chapters. Well worth it.

Great book for people who make presentations.
Got this book a while ago and listened to it. Took a lot from it. Re listened to it last week before giving a presentation for work and fine tuned the speech. Went down well. Thanks David for a great help. Will use it over and over as I prepare more presentations.

Didn't get much from this.
It wasn't very funny. The tips/lessons are okay but without the padding could have been completed in less than an hour. Got very, very boring. Although oddly I found myself motivated to start writing a stand up routine because of this guy can get away with it I'm pretty sure I can.
