he says, she says and just in case you didn’t get it, he says.

I don’t know if it was just the poor narration that spoiled this for me or the poor writing but, I got bored even before the end of the second story. Oh, sure it tries now and again to remember what quotation marks are for, there’s an occasional alternative to the words he said or she said or a person said as in Winston said but it doesn’t happen nearly often enough. The narration feels like it is being read to a child of seven so that even the horrible bits sound tame. overall, don’t waste your time.

Interesting stories, not all ending badly

Despite not having watched The Twilight Zone, I can appreciate the supernatural hallmarks of these stories. Each short story deals with humans experiencing profound changes as they witness the impact of change in others, and they never end up in quite the same places as where they started. Most of the tales speak of the darkness and degradation of earth's current state, a theme which is all too familiar. Yet redemption and means of salvation are offered. Earth is not left to its own fate. I liked the way the author provided context and background information in the introduction of each story. The narration was good although a single narrator would have carried the book just as well. I also picked up on a few jarring moments where the sound editing failed, which distracted me from the material at hand. All in all, a good listen.

If you do what I tell you...

As suggested by the title, Ten Tales of a Dark Tomorrow, comprises ten short stories based on the style of the old T.V.show, The Twilight Zone. Each story is preceded by a brief introduction by the author who tells how it originated, great for those readers who like to know where the ideas come from. Most of the tales are between approximately 30 minutes and one hour in length, some creepy, some mindful of future possibilities, all are atmospheric. They can individuAlly be located easily - a new start at each Audible chapter.
The titles are as follows:
3....My little Girl
4 ...Terror on Pondar Three
5 ...For the Hive
6 ...The Case Against Humanity
7 ...Let's Ride Bikes
8 ...Teach a Man to Fish
9 ...A Drink of Know?edge
10 ..Nana's Memory Box
11 ..A Question of Motivation
12 ..Sally Ann, Queen of the Galaxy.

The reading of the stories is by two different narrators, Jon Hegge and Lauri Flanigan Hegge. Each individually take the tales more suitable to a male or female voice and both give an excellent performance, clear, well intoned and with good pacing. Very easy on the ear.

My thanks to the rights holder of The Tales of a Dark Tomorrow, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. Each of these stories is self contained. Some wi!l leave the reader thinking on, some will leave them wanting more. But none are boring.. Recommended reading to all who used to enjoy Twilight Zone, and anyone wanting a quick dip into S.F.or speculative fiction.
